Si,
You are your own worst enemy, if you are genuinely serious about training, GET TO A DOCTOR NOW.
You will do some real damage to yourself eventually!!! You could potentially even permanently disable yourself.

The rate you are carrying on Si I reckon you will run yourself so much into the ground that you will have to see a doctor eventually and possibly for longer.
You can go see a doctor now and get it sorted, if it is bad, then you have to face it and do what the doc recommends you to do.
I don't particularly fancy having to see a physio and podiatrist, it is expensive and is exposing all of the weaknesses I have when exercising, but if I don't then I could damage myself badly continuing with the running/refereeing level I am doing at the moment.
Si, get to a doctor please!!!!!

I didn't consider my shin splints to be serious until I couldn't walk. I then read up about them and the consequences of ignoring them are not good! Now that I have had them a couple of times, I have to be ultra careful with my feet and training because I have a high risk of the splint injury returning and being much worse.
So do consider it, I really, really doubt that you will be wasting a doc's time, if you don't want to see a doctor then see a physio - a sports physio at that, which might, to be honest, be a better otion.

Go see a physio then Si. The ones that work out of the gym I go to do a free initial assesment.
What's the worst case? You carry on and find you're shoulders are FUBAR by the time you're 30?

Have to agree with other folks here. Don't train through injuries/pain/whatever. It's not big and it's not clever. And it won't be too many years before the sins of the past come back to haunt you. Just ask my knees

I think if you go through your doctor you can get referred to an NHS physio else you will have to pay.
I know one physio local to where I used to live in the UK was 40 pounds for either half an hour or an hour, I can't remember.
I have private health insurance now - my physio costs $45 a session (time varies) and I get $38.50 paid for by my health insurance. I pay the rest. He works for NSW Soccer and is very, very good.

After my car accident I was able to see a physiotherapist on the NHS for free. Took a while for the referral to arrive, but the physio helped my a lot in my recovery.
ChrisB is right, you only have one body - don't abuse it!

I got up to squatting 250kg's but when I went home and layed in bed to go to sleep I could feel my knees throbbing.
Before any of you say it's because of my technique then anyone who seen my sqautting comment I have the best squatting technique they have seen.
I have now backed off squatting as it is uncomfortable on the knees even to do one plate. Once I am warmed up and using wraps I am okay. So I sqaut about once a month just to try and keep some strength. I can still manage a 4 plate squat without a spot and I am content with that.
I am just glad that I never did any gear as I would have been squatting so much more and probably be in a wheelchair now.
I'll just have to put it down to having pi$$ poor genetics when it comes to ligaments.
Damian.

Si,
be careful mate!
you know what squats and deadlifts did to me!
you don't want to end up with metal rods in your back by the time you are 30
remember recovery is the most important part of training.
you don't want to spoil all the hard work you have put in by injuring yourself.
