That is the manual operation to which we refer, you manually pressed the button.

Some people are reporting water usage when not pressing the button implying an automatic operation of the water spray. Early cars had 2 buttons, one to turn on the automatic feature and one manual button, later cars only have the manual button.

What we are trying to determine is whether or not there is still an automatic mode.

Can't you just connect a wire to the bottle pump and run the wire into the car with a bulb attached. That way if the system does go off on it's own you will soon see.
Or is that to simple?

Well as I said earlier, all the information that I have (from the dealer at the time of purchase, and as basher says, from the owners manual) suggests to me that my MY02 STi7 UK is manual only. I don't know what you boys consider to be "driving like a *****" but where conditions allow, I keep the throttle nailed and change up on the buzzer which I have set at 6,500 rmp. In the lower gears, allowing for reaction time, this means I usually hit about 7k before the next cog engages. I have hit max revs in every gear apart from 6th. Adopting this driving style, I have used 2 sets of tyres and *NO WATER*, other than when pressing the button, in 23k miles.

HTH

I thought that the STi7/8 had only one nozzel and that hits the splitter, so only covers half the i/c?

So why all the fuss as it's only a quarter as good as the old STi's like John Felsteads (he's got an RA with DCCD as well ).

You guys need to get out more.

Proper charlie,
'driving like a *****' is making two sets of tyres last 23k.

Mine are foobared after nearly 7k. I'm amazed they have lasted that long!

Depends where you do most of your driving Andy. Most of the miles I do are clocked up on the motorway to and from work. Anyway, it's a pretty bizarre competition isn't it - who can bald their tyres the quickest?

I should never have risen to the bait, I suppose.

I have to agree.
Who really gives a flying **** anyway as the water spray is more likely to be a homologation thing than a practical thing anyway

I've just come back from a trip to the Lake district this weekend and have covered 600 miles approx

Filled up the water bottle.

Drove very hard across mountain roads at time over the weekend and didn't use a singal drop (as suspected)

I have PPP fitted

The system is manual on mine

So I think we have the answer now. The more deluded you are about your driving ability, the more "automatic" the system becomes. Are we all agreed? Maybe this should be incorporated into the well known impreza psychological aptitude test that every respectable dealer subjects potential buyers to.

Bollox to those who doubt, its auto !

On those hot days recently mine has sprayed, tank level gone down and nozzel dripping water WITHOUT touching the button once.

Either that or I have a short somewhere thats making it work when I hit the bumps !

Everyone needs something to argue over, looks like us blobeyes have found our's

Gents see my post in http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/thread.asp?threadid=256891 (sorry not clicky).

Mike, its rare I would disagree but ... ecu code does not have the auto function. Happy to be corrected by Steve D though.

BTW been working on getting the C spec code into the STi8, then things may be different.

cheers

Why would the function have to be in the ECU. It might be a simple I/C discharge temp switch.

it would be a complete waste of time if it was based on that Gary. Water runs out fast enough with it based on engine parameters, you would get a few hundred yards with it based on temp alone.

It is in the code I am looking at right now, as mentioned in the other thread several parameters have to all come together for it to work.

Hum, I suppose so.
I know the heat comes from the compression of the air and on a hot day the air is hotter to start with and the I/C is less efficient.

So when does it need to spray ?, only at full boost, high revs, WOT and I/C outlet temp high ?

I was thinking it would only spray at high temp and WOT which would be easy to set up, but your right, it would drink a bit.

Bob, are you looking at the standard STi 8 code ?, if so then that settles it then.

Unhappy

At first I assumed that it was automatic, on the knowledge that I used one and a half tanks of water in one day, at croft circuit.
Since the PPP has been fitted, it doesn't seem to have used much, if any.

To this conclusion, was my pre PPP ecu and end of line (old one), with auto function, and is the PPP ecu a new batch without auto function??????
