Glynieboy

A device which allows unmetered air into the engine, causing an artificially lean mixture?

No thanks.

Ive got a MY94 STI. It has only got one free flow sports cat in the centre pipe. Last week it failed the emissions test on the 2500 RPM test. My Lambda sensor is in the downpipe now instead of the headers. I changed the Lambda sensor and it sailed through test with particularly low readings.

It is true that a leak in the system can cause a fail. Last year my backbox was leaking from the seam on top of the box. When we blocked the leak it passed easily.

Just Q

Was your lambda reading to high/or was it to low ??

I failed MOT due to high lambda.

But I run a link ecu so it's not the same.

But It help me to fix some leaks, and dump in more fuel in the idle zon's.

In Sweden we have two test's for MOT, idle and high idle(2500rpm)
And the high one is quite nasty to get to work for us guys with different ecu, like the link

Pete,

That was my orignal concern as well. The subaru engine is also designed to over fuel for cooling purposes. However the the ecotek only allows a tiny amount of air in, combined with the fact the fuel gets atomised a lot better, hence mixing a lot better with the air, effectively making it richer again, this won't be an issue.

Exclamation

More info ....

Lamba sensor failed over last weekend might of been on the way out when I had the MOT.

Plus it was also suggested that moving the lamba sensor to a lower hole on the downpipe might help.

Dave.

Don't think the position of the Lambda lower in the downpipe will help. The replacement sensor should get you through anyway now as long as there are no leaks such as on top of the back box where it is difficult to see.
