Unhappy

Cheers for the info everyone

I've 99% reached the conclusion that I've got a duff chip here

I've soldered the points on my PCB to ensure a good contact is made with the pogo pins, I've been told if it works the MS logo is replaced with executer if the chip is working, I get the MS logo

I've not got any LED's on mine so have no idea if it's making contact really. I could solder wires to the mod chip and go to the PCB with them, but then if the chip is fcukd I won't be able to send it back.

Question

Mate, the MS logo will only be changed to "X-Ecutor2" if X2 bios is already installed on the chip. Is it ? Did you not have to flash it first ? They are normally shipped unflashed or flashed with harmless bios for legal reasons.

This may be of some use ?

Dunk - I thought the lite version had the bios already installed.

I got version 2 and it was already flashed - just solder & go.

When working the there was a small bit of white text added to the lower half of the normal XBOX boot screen.

Rich - Think you may be right. I believe they come installed with the Cromwell bios and so can be used straight away. This would need replacing as soon as with X2 bios though. The X2 bios displays the Xecutor2 logo at the MS screen, not sure about the Cromwell.

If its installed properly, I think the DVD drive should eject and the LED will flash red, then green, at least it does on the normal X2 chips.

Thanks for the info, this one should have it's BIOS flashed already, been on the forum posting my problems and they reckon its dodgy connections.

I've sent the bloke an email asking if I can send the chip back, I've fitted and removed it so many times now, ever time I switch it on it's the same...just as if the chips not there...

If thats a lite pro should you not have a few other bits with it? The lite comes with the switch doo dar as well and that just looks like the chip?

Nah, this is the lite version, not the pro.

TBH I ordered the wrong one, I used to fix camcorders in a previous life so my soldering skills are spot on I got the pogo pin one by mistake

If you look at all the stuff you get with the lite, it comes with wires which he obviously did not give you and a switch thing to switch between different bios. Then you look at the lite pro and it says "Xecuter 2 is the best chip on the market This product combines the Xecuter 2 Lite with the Pogo Pin Adaptor" So should just be a lite with added pogo pin adaptor? Keep us posted on what happens, thinking about getting mine chipped.

I got the Lite Plus, pogo pin one.

Info here Lite Plus

I'm gonna give it another go tonight, I'll measure the voltage on the contacts on the system board and then measure the voltage on the top on the pogo-pin connection, that way I'll know if I've made contact on the PCB.

Finally got it working

Checked the voltages on the points on the PCB and found a couple missing on the top of the pogo-pins with the chip fitted.
A quick rub with a bit of sandpaper on the bottom of the pins and aly-bongo it works

Off to share-reactor now
