Claudius,
Not even sure about the safer/easier to drive..... After all, you can't get much safer than an Evo 8 at 'normal' speeds. Let's face it, it ain't gonna trip up at 70 on the motorway, is it??
As for the Scoob being easier to drive.... Maybe, marginally, but the both have their little 'peculiarities'. They're not exactly Mondeos, after all....

What I mean is this: a scooby understeers more and it therefore "safer" to drive for the average driver.
As for Chris' numbers, I dont know where they're coming from; they may be special editions of various scoobies that are faster than a standard Evo, but the reality is this: the Evo's chassis is better and the engine stronger. If you compare two cars tuned to the same level of reliability, the Evo will be the faster one. It's also more neutral.

Chrisp,
EVO6 (tested by Autocar, remember the airbourne front page piccy):
0-60 4.4, 0-100 11.2 + in gear times to match...so yes its faster, its less.
Having said that I'm thinking of part exing my MY99 tek3 for an FQ300 7 or 8

Had 2 uk scoobs and then a P1, must say i dearly loved em all but in the end decided to evolve and got an 8 FQ..
Very little in it in a straight line compared to the P1 ( full de-cat and induction, bump steer mod, and AP6 pots). However after now having covered 2K in the evo, I know it was the right decision.
It has the faster steering rack which the P1 so desperately needed, The handling balance is one of neutrality, with oversteer there if you want it. The SAYC is fantastic, (at least on the road) it doesn't feel intrusive.. just helping the car into nice 4 wheel drifts, or small wags of the tail if you try harder. i haven't tracked it yet, so hope it doesn't get in the way too much then.
True.. I haven't had to get it serviced yet (got the first one free!) and i really do miss the decatted flat four howl. But it's been worth it so far.
There are some things the scoob will always do better, but for overall fun the evo is giving me that bit more.

On my fourth Scoob(STis mainly) now on a 7.Test drove a Evo7 a few months ago.In terms of steering accuracy and feed back the Scoob c'ant touch it.The Evo was also on std susp/wheels and my Scoob is running 18s with Leda fully adjustables.Felt like a significantly better 'drivers' car.

Hi Deep Singh,
Yes - that was my impression too. The Evo 8 FQ300 just seemed to 'gel' slightly more on a challenging road, without being significantly less comfortable or tractable than the Scoob.
Cheers, HB.

Just a couple of points : EVO 6 TME in EVO mag 0-60 4.8 and 0-100 13.5. EVO7 0-60 5.0 0-100 13.0 .
The second point is, is it a better drivers cars or does all the electronics spoil it ?. i.e. it makes you feel like you are a better driver and actually the car is doing all the tricky bits.
Everyone bangs on about how a real drivers cars is RWD and you can drive it and the back end has the potential to break free when provoked and you can catch slides etc.
Should a real drivers car have any aids at all (like a TVR or an elise for example). I like my scoob as it does make me feel like I am in control but I know that the diffs are helping more noticeable in the wet and when I am playing to rough.
If you want to cover ground at fast speed then fair enough but I am starting to feel that these cars (rally reps) only have the one trick so what the point in going from a scoob to an EVO.
At the end of the depends what you want really, I dont think there is much between the two cars when you have similar power to weight ratios it comes down to the driver but I guess with the EVOs extra driver aids then a driver would probably be quicker around a track as shown by the Stigs TG times.
Funny how both TG presenters said they would take the scoob though, perhaps ultimate track pace may not be the be all and end all in a car purchasing decision.

I like these sort of performance numbers, but does the EVO's use more juice than say a 00my Impreza tubro. The figures say it's more to run, but then again the figures said that a 2.8VR6 used more juice than the Impreza and that was Bull$hit.
I could cope with similar fuel drinking, but not much worse than my old standard impreza which used to love the Stuff.

what the point in going from a scoob to an EVO.
Doesnt use anymore fuel than my95 WRX that I used to own. As Claude says and he owns both his uses no more fuel than his scooby.

Just my tuppennies worth.............................
Test drove FQ300 and was NOT blown away. Didn't feel very fast at all! In fact the car felt like the turbo had been nicked. Very odd given the reputation these cars enjoy. So at the end of the test walked round the car and told the salesman I was not overly impressed when I noticed a restrictor in the exhaust!!!!! Whats this then I exclaimed to which the salesman replied "oh we leave those in it doesn't affect the performance!!!!!"
My **** it doesn't! The FQ300 comes with big bore hks pipe which I think is a Hiper muffler. This is the only HKS that has an optional insert to reduce noise (great for Bedford!) but which also restricts air flow blunting the performance.
Without this insert I would imagine the car to be a great all round package as the handling was spot on with less understeer and great steering feel. However seeing as I couldn't convince the salesman to remove the offending article for a proper go I drove straight to my nearest Subaru dealer and bought new WRX with ppp as I will not take a chance on spending 28k on a car without knowing for sure that I am getting a good chunk of extra performance for my hard earned.
By the way I am extatic with the WRX which I believe represents outstanding value for money, is an easier car to live with day to day (ie better ride) and has an engine note which puts a smile on my face every time I crank her up. That said I wouldn't mind an Evo 8 on the drive as well for special occasions!!

Too right - if they can't be bothered to ghive you the full package, what's the point!
BTW - WRX PPP and Evo 8 FQ300 - a combination to die for

Crisp when I say 'drivers' car let me expand. Both cars have electronic aids to help so you really c'ant play one against the other.I have no probs with such aids helping me go faster in all conditions, thats what technology is there for.You would'nt criticise your doctor for using the latest toys would you?
When I say that the Evo is better its really the steering accuracy and the fact that the car feels so much more agile and lighter(in handling terms not outright speed). The downside of this is that its probably not as foolproof as the Scoob. I've got to the point where I'd rather have the more agile but maybe slightly more nervous(on the edge) car.If you see what I mean?
