Dont get the golf,a derv golf at that.

Get the CTR,you know it makes sense really!!!!!!

Ive gone to the CTR from a UK scoob,2 totally different cars,IMO.
Only use mine for a weekend blat really,so I wont comment on using it on a daily basis(to and from work etc).
Not really into the racing anything with 4 wheels thing, purely self satisfaction, and in this price bracket,I dont think you will get much better.
All depends what the main use of the car will be..

90% commuting-10% fun=CTR
10% commuting-90% fun=CTR

Sorted!!!!!!!!

Dave sits here pondering life and wondering whether life is worth going on????

'Toasted by a scooby!' Hmm what next.... Right I think I am off to trade in my CTR for a nova, this way I know that nobody will challenge me and I can think my car is the mutts!

However lets be honest, I went along to meet saxo boy (kenny) as I am a complete petrolhead and would therefore go and see anyone elses car, esp a scoob!

I went there with no preconceptions that my CTR was going to do anything special, 215bhp if I am lucky whilst Kenny's car is chucking out around 270 - 280bhp. Also I can put my hands in the air and say I am by no means a great road driver (probably not a great track driver either!) and its purely down to confidence, I drive within my limits and back off esp when I have people in my car.

The whooping I received I think was absolutely fair enough and I did not expect anything less, my driving style was lazy at times and yeah even when you flashed your hazards it took my little pee brain a couple of secs to remember what you had said and then apply the effort that is needed to change gear and find V Tech! Dont get me wrong I was giving it some and using V Tech but even if I had been on the very edge every change etc you still would have easily pulled away! Plus yeah there was me and another fatty in the front of the car so a bit of extra weight!!!

So with head held high, Dave walks away with the satisfaction of knowing that he is quite content with his car and admits that one day he will own a tunned scoob!!!!!

Kenny,

A 300 bhp UKSTI PPP was only 2 seconds a lap faster than a standard CTR at a recent Autocar track test IIRC.

Your car, however, is far from standard an would probably pull a similar advantage on a 215bhp scoob.

SaxoBoy, Whats your budget? For pint size thrills a Clio Cup would be a good idea.
If you want a bigger car with easily accessable turbo grunt then depending on your budget the Leon Cupra R is great, or for a bit less a normal Cupra or Octavia vRS with a 210bhp remap.

I did, I was half expecting you to pull away after 80mph! If I had the choice and both were clean I'd probably have your car over mines as its lovely and a far better ownership prospect but it didn't seem as quick as I remembered

Why is the CTR's performance so varied from forum to forum, experience to experience, driver to driver??? On the one had you get people saying they are fast as **** and can keep up with scooby this, boxster that and on the other hand people say a standard 172 (non cup) will keep up with them, etc

What is the real deal with this car?

Nope, a thorough testing/thrashing is in order to clarify this to myself

Dave I should stress that I didn't meet you to beat you so to speak. In fact, we spent 99% of the drive at reasonable pace and I enjoyed an evening with fellow petrol-heads. My reason for meeting you was three fold: To get an idea for how quick the CTR is, to get an idea how quick it is relative to my car and to meet new people. The 2nd part seemed to get partially answered but as I, and subsequently you, pointed out you weren't exactly raging (despite your name ) the a$$ off of it and there was the extra weight. This suggests to me one of two things: The CTR isn't as fast as its believed to be or (and IMHO and hopefully) its the sort of car where you have to have it in the VTEC all the way in every gear to get its full performance. When I was in it I tried not to focus on the 'feeling' but rather to watch the speedo and it did pile the speed on pretty quick and I suspect without me and your mate it would be much quicker.

In short, I really appreciate the run the wee comparison and your thoughts in general on CTR ownership. If anything it hightlights how important it is for me to drive one myself to my own driving style

P.S. Lucky we got back when it did - quite quickly became non-ctr weather

Cup is under consideration but the CTR spanks it for looks, size and the 'must have' value

My head hurts All day its been CTR, cup, rent my a$$ and keep the scooby, golf, 306 runaround, push bike!! Why can't I be one of these people that walks into a garage points at a car that looks nice in a certain colour and buys it then deals with the consequences of the decision later!

There are too many variables and considerations in car buying!!

Back to page 1

DaveTC - I see your having problems reading, that was a Saxo VTR Supercharged with 145bhp AT THE WHEELS!!

So no he was in around 3rd-4th-5th gear. We only went to 135mph before slowing as he was already 5-6 cars back by that point.

I got a otr price of 16000 for second hand jdm ctr

Cool

Neil that would be cool

Phil, you are right but it doesn't stop me getting all stressed about it. The good thing is that I'm in no rush so I can still change my mind a million times.

As a current CTR owner (non-modified), I thought i'd share my thoughts on this...

I test drove a standard 03 WRX yesterday and I have to say my CTR does feel a bit quicker in a straight line

and i don't agree that it is that difficult to drive the CTR fast - it just takes getting used to selecting the correct gear to put you quickly into VTEC. And out of VTEC, there is a fair amount of torque anyway.
