Me Dyson aint sucking so good!
Thanks Tomski - its under warranty so its up to them.
Cleaned the filter after Pete's advice and dissasembled it a bit more looking for bloackages after the (excellent) Dyson animated online guide; am however starting to conclud that the motor is shot. Sounds different, which is another good clue.
Happy to volunteer to moderate a Domestic Sucking Devices forum

Just received a free new cyclone unit. They said that it might have swallowed something wet or damp and that this can stick to the cyclone walls and reduce suction.
Now that is pretty crap…
Works fine now though.

the only time my dyson stops sucking properly is when the turbo brush gets clogged up with hair wrapped around it !!other than that, it's excellent at beating all the dog fur out of the carpet,it's surprising how much fur the bl00dy dog sheds, with having kids,i'm glad it's inside the hoover and not on my floors!!

We just (last year) took our 14 year old VAX to France, where it's still performing sterling work in the little farmhouse we're trying to do up.
The wife wanted to replace it with a Dyson
.....seen all the ads etc
:
I pointed out that the "no loss of suction" idea was crap, if it started with less suction than others anyway....which even according to Dyson's own figures, it does.
We bought another VAX.
A good tip with VAX's is to buy their cloth bag at the start, and keep it clean.....a good shake will do, after every emptying, but washing and drying it helps about every 10th emptying.

Iagree with alkazar get a vax with the cloth bag we have one it is used every day falls down stairs gets kicked out the road very obedient never asks for new bits never leaves its wheels behind.
wifes work has a dyson overpriced rubbish wheels fall off handles break looks disgusting full of crap.
vax is not perfect but it is the most relliable 10 000 suck service intervals
even then 2 min to change filters and you just stick the cloth bag in the washing machine when it is too dirty
voila new bag!
the washing bits crap though
