I had this problem. It is probably the belt that has gone. You can see it on the end of the roller.
Look on the dyson site under ACCESORIES/REPLACEMENT PARTS specific to your model.

Happy with two we have. Note they are heavy to cart around (up and down stairs) and you can't beat the Vax for cleaning car interiors etc.

i would rather suck up the dirt with my own mouth than have a dyson in the house....the day it went in the skip was wonderfull.

edit to add this comment from www.which.co.uk:

"Again, Dyson has the worst record by brand. Nearly a quarter of the 3,477 people owning Dyson uprights told us their cleaner had needed repairing. Dyson's cylinder vacuums were also significantly below the average. "

Diesel

There are two filters on some models, three on others. Its almost always these that need changing.

have you plugged in the wand properly...if you took it out to clean the car properly.....if you don't push it all the way in the suction gets cut back and you end up with either a weak or no suck at all

Thumbs up

They one of the very few companies that provide an excellent helpline 0870 5275104. I had a similar thing and the guy at Dyson went through the possibilities. Just have the machine in front of you when you phone. Mine was filters plus another minor blockage. DL

dyson............... Should come in kit form with glue. They need more servicing than a fiat.

I am in the hoover market at the moment. my last purchase was a panasonic that AFAICR cost about £60. It has sucked away fine for years and years, but I think we have more or less done for it by hoovering up plaster dust during our recent renovations. I was thinking about a Dyson but people have said they break and need constant attention etc. Thing is i reckon with the panasonic i must have spent at least £150 on hoover bags over the years. Are these bosch ones bagless as well?

I've had a Dyson for a couple of years now, haven't had any problems so far but you do get a loss of suction when the filters get dirty, so as long as you remember to clean the filters regularly there shouldn't be any problems with that.

I suppose like with all mechanical devices....sometimes you just get a duff one!

Clean the filters - makes a huge difference. Also, take off the brush assembly at the front, and clear out all the gunk. I did this recently and the whole thing works like brand new now.

A lot of people say they're over-hyped, but we've had ours for 4+ years now, and it works brilliantly.

I had some crud stuck in the bottom U-bend. You have to take all the hoses out, and I stuck a coathanger in there - loads of crud came out and it's now fine

My Dyson is still going strong after five years. It's also handy for finding bits of carpet that aren't held down very well. Be careful where you point the hose too - it's also good at finding curtains

I havent laughed so much in a long time!

>>They need more servicing than a fiat<<

>>Sucks like a $50 *****<<

Well fat lot of good being bagless if it has 3 bloody filters and these all need changing after 3 months!!!!!!!! Can you wash or, err, vacuum (sp?) these filters. Long since chucked the manual as I KNOW how a Hoover works dont I!

It was bloody brilliant when new - fantastic hoover with a Animal mini rotating brush for the Old English debris!

Thanks for the dial up advice number too - cheers y'all!

The main ones are washable. Don't squeeze them out when dry, the particles are so fine they won't do your lungs any good at all.
