Yep agreed that supposed 'high-speed' film was utter bollox, looked more like 30mph and they did two things to make it seem fast, one shoot very low to the ground and two have alot of engine noise but it still didnt have the desired effect IMHO.
The show's ok just depends what you're into, personally it was too Jag biased last nite but if your a jag fan probably loved it.
On a slightly different note I think fifth gear is complete pants now each episode has a 'theme' to it.

That car chase seemd fake for a number of reasons
1)Sounded more like a bike in ther gearing and noise
2) He was only reaching about 60mph
3) WTF was it all about?
Did anyone understand it?

bring back men with beards and boring technical articles like TG in the 80's+90's.
William Woolard where are you now?
My vote for worst Top Gear presenter goes to that daft bint Humble who was brought in as eye candy while being entirely unknowledgable about cars. Liked the way they always had her reviewing some kind of people carrier or similar.

I reckon that film in Paris was -
a. Dubbed over - sounded WAY too clean with super tall gears (even if you snuggle a Dougal type TV mike in an engine bay it never sounds that clean!)
b. undercranked - looks faster when played at normal film rates
I got a better one of A470 North at 0700 on a Xmas morning in a Westfield SEight! No tricks
Re the show its tough to make an 'on location' show last that long, and love it or hate it, the studio base does make it different to all that has gone before. Clarkson did have a chat show once and this run employs elements of that to pad it out, as well as making it accessible to those that do not have petrol running through their veins like us... Agree? (He drove that Aston SO badly though - they had to cut off every shot early of every slide or donught as he probably always always lost it)
D
PS Had that XJR for a week. SO nimble for a big car. Fabulous motor. DONT buy an S Calss
