This has gone to hilarious levels, and Claudius, I actually now understand where you are coming from
Coming from another country / background / forums, at first I thought they were kidding me...
Claudius, I actually now understand where you are coming from
Claudius... when you ask about flywheels, I answer. When you talk **** I don't. I'm not a member of the MLR, am not buddies with Moses or Mycroft... does that make me a Scooby **** ?

I dont object to sexy ladys on the odd post as it breaks the ice. But i remember MAx power back in the day when there were no naked babes on there! Ok it was boring after a few years! Reanult 5 GTT became boring so they got a few ladys to pose! Now look at the damn thing!!!!!! If i didnt know any better i would think it was a softcore mag! The only thing they dont show on the pics is their hooo haaa! Any1 ever had a look at the back pages???? I can pay the same money and get a copy of playboy and see much fitter women in there lol. On a serious note though, the odd saucy pic is cool but the moderators have to decide when to draw the line.

EvilBevel....I don't know what you're on about, but I am convinced you can be nicer about it.
Steve, are "nekkid ladies" in your opinion the problem on this BBS ?
How many threads did we have as a percentage with those ? 1 % ? Nah, not even close.
We probably did have 5 % about pikeys (hey, not my word), 10 % about "my car is faster than", 15 % about dumpvalves "so the turbo doesn't "stall" LOL", and "why is a P1 so worthless these days".
Why should I be nice about it ? These people are killing my home turf
FFS, Claudius & Mycroft are making more valid arguments than the sad moderators on here. Why should I be happy with that ? I don't like Claudy or 'croft'
And before you go with the "they do a job" argument: I put in more work into this BBS than Niel Slimey et all.
So why would I want to be nice ?
They are ****ing up something that was once good and try to sell it as a "community".
#244
Sorry Claude honey, the BBS randomly filters out some words, where as feltching would be perfectly OK. The limits of PC-ness I guess ?
And yes, the mayo is killing me But then again so did your kartoffelnsalad

I don't like you because of the first sentence in your reply. Simple. You seem to think everyone on here is a moron.
We've never met, but you met JF no ? That's enough for me, I trust his judgement. He's one of the people who are FG.
Now before we start an argument... do you agree with my points, or are you just gonna endlessly quote them ?

Sorry bout the extra "n", but I can remember having cramps walking from Bahnhof Zoo to the end of the Kurfurstendam in 1983 after eating it. Berlin is great...
And anyway, you live in France
****, make that Essex, as otherwise it would not be on topic for this BBS
And yes, I did invest a bit of time, some behind the screens (well, a lot, but I'm officially outta there LOL), but most in trying to reply in Drivetrain (which means I often was wrong, as I'm learning as we speak.)
And I was wrong about 200 grams on your flywheel guestion
Now can we go back to nekkid ladies ? Niel wants to know you know.

I agree with what you say, except that I think everyone here is a moron. I think that there are quite a lot of them, but of course there are dozens of people here who arent. And I would include you in these dozens
As for John Frenchbread, he was the only one of the 10 scoobynet people I met at the rally who just wouldnt speak to me although I tried to get him to say something and made a restaurant reservation for him; I guess he took me too seriously on here before or something like that. Whatever.

And I hate potatoe salad! Disgusting!
Sorry, back on topic: I like naked ladies
... as long as they look good of course
I sometimes look at naked ladies on the internet, and sometimes see some on forums, and it doesnt bother me at all, well on the contrary actually. I dont go looking for the stuff on here, but if it's there, I'll look, and if I dont like them (usually because they are pretty average or have too many clothes on) then I click "Back" in my browser and move on. No big deal

I click "Back" in my browser and move on.
Why don't you RTM it to the moderators
****, I was serious before and now I'm just ... erm ... serious LOL.
I am worried that you don't see me as a moron though... kinda ruins my reputation .
JF is quite OK, one of the people who took Scoobynet to the next level after lots of "dumpvalve" doohdah, but he indeed had seen your posting history. Can you blame him ?
Well, he can reply for himself, but he just flew off for something boring in Greece I think
Oh, and off topic (can we have a German forum ?) but Berlin made a mighty impression on me (and not just in the culinary way :barf. Have you been there ? I fell in love with that city (both sides, there was some pesky wall in between). Of course, you being French you know f-all about that
<I need some sleep I think >
Neil, what's the fuzz all about ?

Claudius in a "my spelling sucks" shocker
Still, I could probably fill this forum with my thoughts on Berlin. Nobody would give a damn though. Let's talk about half nekkid laydies, and not about culture.
UFAH Gelander... Gedachtnisskirche... Ehwige Gluhlampe ... Axel Springer Verlag... Checkpoint Charlie...OK, my German sucks, but to be honest, that one trip I made to Berlin made a bigger impression than all the ****e posted in this topic. I would have wanted a Scooby there though (LOL) as it was -35 and even the Russians seemed to be cold.
It was the year that a lot of gaspipes/waterpipes just blew up. 1984 ?
Those Trabants... now they are a fad, back then </old> they were a miracle for the people that finally could buy them (after 20 years, I wouldn't want to host a BBS there with the "I FINALLY GOT MY TRABANT" LOL
AlexanderPlatz... the big TV tower... I ate strawberries there and was told that my meal was about the value of half a monthly income of the average East German. OTOH, books were almost free, Opera was totally free... it was all kinda spooky. As was the Olympic stadium in West Berlin. Jesse Owens anyone ? It was mighty impressive though, as was the museum (forgot the name ?) where you can find the most fascinating Egypian art. Nefertete. (did she ever complain about males thinking bad thoughts about her ??? )
Oh well, back to 2003 and the fact that we have to "vote" on nekkid ladies.
Get a ****ing life, and above all, don't assume we furriners just want you in the Euro zone
I do hope though you all feel totally inadequate to comment any further. Oh well, maybe my post will be gone in the morning LOL
Goodnight

Turbo_Steve,
sorry, your camp 3 is the same as Neils camp 1,he needs to do some more analysis before we can arrive at camp 3.Fascinating though, whether another 13 pages will eventually find another camp to add to *yes* and *no*.Perhaps *don't know* will sneak into the Scoobynet psyche.Who knows.

Guys, can we keep this on-topic please.
I regret that I haven't had time as yet to read these replies, but I will get an analysis from Neil shortly.
My personal view is simply to do as we have been doing. If something is not illegal / obviously offensive, it's left there unless a number of complaints are made.
---
Theo. I won't go in to a long drawn out argument with you, especially in this thread, but you have not put in more effort than "Neil Smalley et all". The efforts you put in were very gratefully received at the time (which was a long time ago now) and I thank you.
All the best

DBY I agree totally.
OK, it seems to me that the majority feel the same way about this that I happen to feel. So we'll just carry on as normal.
If pictures are posted which are legal and not obviously offensive, they can stay. If lots of people complain, it becomes clear that they are offensive to a good number of people, and they're not going to be a huge loss to the community if they dissapear, they will be removed.
Thanks for all your input everyone. It is important to note that whilst *I personally* may not have wanted anything to change regarding this, the scoobynet community *may* have wanted it to change, hence the question.

And so Gentlemen, (prodominantly anyway) after much an ill mannered and intemperate debate the decision is:-
No Decision
Sorry Si, "lots" does not provide a definitive criterion to guide your/our moderators.
Not that I'm particulary troubled, but as this should set the precedent for other topics that offend. Surely a time related numerical, or percentage derived figure is required.

As a Scooby Regular for the last 8 monhts or so, it doesn't really bother me.
Maybe posts like this should be put into none Scooby Related, or maybe another section, that way people who like this stuff can look at it, and people who don't like it don't go in there kinda thing.
But overall, think SN is superb and the moderation is fair.
Cheers

I appreciate your concerns, as they are mine also. If you can think of a hard and fast rule that would work, I will be happy to look at it.
The trouble is, there isn't one.
Everything is subjective.
Let's say we went on number of complaints. If one topic was complained about by 20 people and another by 10 people, does that say that the "20" one was more offensive?
What if the "20" one was in general, and the "10" one was in the international forum? Now you would have to say that the "10" one was more important as that's the majority of the major contributors to the forum complaining, rather than a microscopic fraction of the numbers that hit general every day.
But then, say those 10 were all "not so sure this is appropriate", kind of complaints, and the 20 were "this offends me deeply to the core" kinds.. the 20 become more important again.
This is just the beginning. You could go on and on with the above.
At the end of the day, we choose moderators based on their balanced and reasoned judgement. We ALL make mistakes, and there is not a single person reading this that doesn't make mistakes regularly. But they do it for nothing, and they do a pretty good job. They don't need numbers, etc in order to become robots, otherwise we could just write software to do it.

PS.
A decision WAS made. A decision was made to leave things as they are.
That's not "no decision", that "no change". The reason for this is that no change appears to be necessary / warranted.

That's a valid point and one we've considered for ages. The 2 main reasons we don't want to do that are :
a) We don't want a "****" section on scoobynet. There are plenty of other places on the net for that kind of thing, so it won't be a benefit to the community to do that.
b) It really isn't a big enough issue. There is not enough of a problem to try to resolve.

I agree there is no problem; as the guy said, why trying to fix something that isnt broken? It's merely the initial poster asking the question who suggested by asking that question that there may be a problem...
I have a question for you: is posting a picture containing breasts with nipples illegal or offending? I hear people mention nipples...

Just a point regarding webmasters comments on the 20 or 10 complaints scenario, could it not be a simple complaints per viewing ratio?
going to Phils thread, if there were 20 compaints but 5000 views should it be shut down? or what about 20 complaints with 200 views?
Anyway you get the idea, can we have some pics now please, since its OK now, I promise no laddish phwoar type comments niether a RTM

Hi Jay
Unfortunately it's more complex than that.
Regardless of the "type of complaint" comment I made above, taking your suggestion...
what if 980 of the 1000 views had happened prior to the offensive item being posted?
Cheers

Hi Banshi
You mistook my clarifications for stress levels! It has nothing to do with thick or thin skins.
"Come along now, contributions before the material appeared obviously couldn't be included."
That's exactly what I was saying. In that situation, 10 complaints would be hugely important, as there had only been 20 views in the time it took 10 people to complain.
Now let's take your idea of x complaints in y minutes and firstly play it through the previous scenario.
Someone posts an equally offensive post in general, and then in International. The general one gets 10 complaints in 5 minutes "bye bye baby" . The International one get's 5 complaints over the next 2 days. Should the one in international be ignored?
Then we can move on to more complex issues like. At midday on a weekday we get around double the traffic of between 5:30 and 7:30 pm, and even that is a lot more than we get during weekends.
Are offensive threads not as offensive during off-peak times?
If there is a rule that we can apply, I'm all ears, I promise you. It would make life SO MUCH simpler. Until that time, I will entrust the moderators to do what they already do so well, and continue to listen to the members so I can steer my own thinking and the mods and I can come to a conceptual agreement.
