Neil,

thanks for not taking my reply too seriously

On a more serious note, I'd say that a forum having "offensive" pictures doesnt mean that there isnt any good technical information. The www.supraforums.com are a good example of that: they have lots of tech FAQs, but also an off topic section where "anything goes". Please dont open threads in "anything goes" on supraforums if you are at work and your employer doesnt like you seeing naked women and the like.

The UK where most of the people here are from seems to be a little backwards / traditional / old school or whatever you want to call it as far as having naked people on forums is concerned. I'll leave it up to you guys, and ultimately the owner of the scoobynet ltd to decide what's right or wrong to have.

Personally, I like good looking naked women and would browse through the dedicated forum (if there were one) once in a while. If it were me, I'd have an "18+" section in the forums if people wanted it so as to separate the tech / general stuff from the ****, and I'd ask people who want to view this particular forum to email me with either a statement saying they are over 18 or, if required by the law, for proof they are.

What utter rubbish, Ive been a "lurker" on this site from the start and a poster more recently. I found the site extremely useful when I got my first scoob as there were very knowledgeable genuine enthusiasts on it, now it seems to be full of self important people who don't have a clue (there are exceptions!) The comments that it's a car site were very accurate years ago but if you were to take all the rubbish out that isnt car related you would be left with one forum, the popularity of the muppet forum says it all really. I think this site has actually helped to destroy the popularity of the Impreza as most "normal" people think Subaru owners are geeks. Show me more **** and I'll keep coming back....

One more thing to consider: if you were to forbid bikini / naked etc pictures, you would probably spend even more time reading RTMs and editing stuff, sending warning emails etc....

I read somewhere recently that worldwide, 45% of all internet traffic is sex related. Personally I never miss the daily update on "thehun.net". So if I wanted to look at nakedness, I don't come to Scoobynet. (Although a link pointing to the good sites wouldn't go amiss with me).

outsider
That would be my stance, but Simon has always maintained that so long as the bbs avoids potential litigation policy should be developed/dictated by the community.

you are entitled to your victorian views
My what an ill informed generalisation. Curiously though my knowledge of FHM/Sunday Sport and similar publications is based purely upon reputation I have a fairly relaxed view on the subject.

If the board were to include explicit hardcore material my concern wouldn't on the grounds of morals or taste. But upon the likely demographic change to the composition of the "readership"

It was once possible to debate in a reasoned and mature manner, including a little personal but harmless banter. Topics normally had some relevance to Subaru and an interjection from the mods was generally enough to smooth ruffled feathers.

It would be interesting to see what proportion of usage is now truly Scoob based and it they are the forums in which arguments and childish conflict proliferate. As Scoobynet expands there is less focus/interest on performance cars and a **** n Bums forum simply would continue that trend.

I don't think this thread is doing much good because most are throwing out personal insults at everyone when really the topic should be about what happens, its no good saying everyone who disagrees with the men who want are fat and ugly, thats just imature talk in my opinion, and its not helping atall, so really that means you disagree with us and your branded fat, ugly and insecure..... so really theres no point for this thread because the decision has already been made, agree and all will be fine.....
Some people have made brilliant points on here, such as maybe its not the people comlpaining who have the insecure problems but maybe the people who feel so strongly about this that they have to throw out insults are the insecure ones? I don't know. The fact of the matter is, some people think naked ladies are irrelevant to this site and some see no problem with it, so why not give out constructive ideas instead of insulting everyone, because isn't that what we are SUPPOSED to be doing, if you want to get anywhere.....
I think having a secret/hidden or password needing forum may be the idea, this way people who want the site without that sort of thing on here are happy and don't really know its there and the people who DO want this type of stuff on here arehappy too and get their little room
Personally i don't see this site going completely without these types of images on it, as to be honest you DO get these images everywhere so the logical thing to do is make a hidden room OR do the WArning thing, many have suggested this so...... Also its all on the decision of the Webmaster at the end of the day.

By the way Midget, what to do you mean in your last post?

I mean that for him to come on here and critisize the muppets when it is clear that he has had very little input into the board so far is a bit of a cheek.

His post count is an indication of his activity here. If he has only had a few posts then how can he come on here and be so critical about the BBS. The muppets have their place. What are his grounds for his attack on them apart from ignorance.

He couls be a lurker and have been reading this BBS for a long time and only recently posted but I very much doubt this as by the way he worded his post he seems like someone that likes to spout off his opinion to everyone no matter how ill informed it is so I doubt if is a lurker.

IMHO.

I faught I dun well writting all them words wiv only 2 spollinf mistakes. But the point surely is that this is not the place for **** of any kind but sexy pictures with all the right bits hidden are OK provided there are not too many threads just dedicated to those pictures. By having a dedicated forum I think it will just encourage more posting of these pictures and attract a lot of the max power crowd to the site which will surely 'cheapen the site' more than just allowing these pictures on the occasional basis that they now appear. They only thing I would suggest clamping down on is blatant **** taking with just the bare minimun coverd up.

btw I have been on this board since 99 with different user names I just don't believe in ever having more than a hundred or so posts on a user name so I start new ones. Also you muppets need to get out or get more fullllfillllling jobz.

BMW thats why i mentioned having the hidden forum, or maybe with a password that way not everyonw will knows its there, so outsiders won't know its there, just the members.....
And another point..... Sometimes its not the women making a degrading picture, its sometimes the men who MAKE it degrading by there comments i find..... only sometimes not all of the time... but its something to think about itsn't it..... The men DO kinda make a picture more sleazy then what it is sometimes.

/whimper/ dont hurt me hehe

Cino,

I see you have had another photo shoot recently. Nice pics. I also noticed on your forum that a couple of agencies have shown an interest. Anything come of it?

Just out of interest.

Mail me off line if you don't want to discuss it on here.

I don't think that its really necesary to create a new forum when there are so few of these posts around anyway and if you do find them degrading then why don't you just not read them ? Also ladies need to understand that all men are perverts we can't help it even the nice ones. Any man who won't admit to being a pervert is a repressed pervert and thats worse.

I rather like the idea of NWS (not Work Safe) on a thread that contains images or content that you just know the thought police in your works IT department will get pi$$ed off with.
For those of us that use work to view scoobynet then the last thing that I want is the Thought Police banging on about inappropriate use of internet access and thats going to happen a lot faster if I am downloading content that the PC brigade would frown on.
When I am at home I couldn't give a rats *** (more or less) about the type of soft pictures we are talking about but when at work it could draw attention to my abuse of the system!

So its NWS for me!

Does anyone else see the irony in people asking for "work safe" signs/content, but yet almost no one seems to mind using their employers time/gear to hang around on a BBS ? So it's OK to read the sometimes seriously "redneck" contents of Current Events at work ?

I don't care one way or the other, I liked the pics in the car wash thread, lots of the comments were from 12 year olds, wouldn't mind if it was not there, can't see what the fuzz is about, but what bothers me more is that driving techniques/Subaru/other cars technique related content sinks away deeper and deeper.

This thread will go to 300+ replies ("da community"), the question about the roundaboutr will die in 10 replies. *THAT* is where Scoobynet is going down.

The "guidelines" had 1470 views, the car wash thread had probably more (especially after this thread) That leaves us with "25.000" members who don't give a hoot about the guidelines.

Of course there is an irony in doing the NWS thing .... assuming the equipment is being used during works time and not on lunch breaks etc
And you are quite right also about some of the redneck comments in General.
That said, anything that steers me away from anything the PC brigade regard as iffy during my work 'experience' is a good thing as far as I am concerned.

Badger Stuffer, i'll mail you, not a good thread to start talking about my pics lol...

But anyway, i persoanlly don't really care whats posted on SNET, naked ladies aint really relevant BUT i don't post too much on here to really make an issue of it, if so many people want it then, give it to them but not to make others unahppy though, this needs to stay as a place where many enjoy comnig here, i just don't look at it if i think its going to be something i'm not interested in.. BUT i am just trying to make suggestions for those people it matters to..... So i guess if a new forum won't work with people, maybe the muppets or non scooby related is the place for them BUT in moderation, overcrowding them with naked ladies is jsut going to be abit much but every now and a again should be ok, just another idea.....

Phil, no, you should read my post again []

TBH, I was gonna post "I RTM'd your thread to the moderators" just to see what the reactions would be. I'm amazed (and a little bit worried) that people like Claudius didn't try that one

This BBS is showing its bum to all & sundry, and asks for advice. People like me will be ignored. No skin of my back.

FWIW Phil, those pics in your first post really made my day Repulsive of course, but there you go If you'd post them daily, I'd think "oh ****", but since you are are respected member, doing some great stickers for people (I bet you got very rich from those eh !!!!) I just thought it was funny.

Simon & mods: when are you gonna stop to turn this once great resource into a frigging nightmare ? Personally, I want to know, as I invested more time in it than you did. (and my time is money also)

And before you push the delete button: my lawyer has a copy of this. It all works both ways doesn't it

Let me spell it out for you: internet is not a business, and a business is not a democracy.

Consider me your worst enemy

Can O worms anyone ?

Theo (wow, a real name)

PS: Neil, did you have to post this because Simon had to go to Greece ?

PS2: how much do you know about internet security and moderator forums ?

Neil, sorry but i literally am pmsl

You ask a question "what does everyone think about offensive pictures being posted in Scoobynet"

and after 11 pages your considered analysis is

As far as I see it there are 2 main 'camps'

1. It's a grown up BBS and we should allow 'FHM' and Cosmo level of pictures.
2. This is primarily a car BBS and allowing pictures of that kind to be posted cheapens the whole site
Were you expecting a third camp? And what would that be? Perhaps a third camp might be "I am happy with the pics providing there is a loud beep 2 seconds before they come on my monitor so i can shut my eyes quickly"

no offence, but that is absolutely priceless

But there is a 3) Dave !

3) We have a lot more problems than worry about a few tongue in cheek posts. Especially about people like BobR, Pat, Mark A., Wallis, JF, et al (and probably shortly J. Banks) that stopped posting, unless they can't control (which is their true sharing nature, bless them.)

And yes, I'd count myself to that last list, even though I don't have a 5th of their knowledge.

FFS, Simon and Shaun use the word "****" in about every second sentence in private

This has gone to hilarious levels, and Claudius, I actually now understand where you are coming from

It's a negative POV though, but don't let that bother you

Niel, can you feel you are totally out of your depth yet ? If not, I'll continue

Claudius... when you ask about flywheels, I answer. When you talk **** I don't. I'm not a member of the MLR, am not buddies with Moses or Mycroft... does that make me a Scooby **** ?

Maybe you should think about that one ?

<this is over the heads of about 90 % of the mods, go figure>

If you'll excuse the pun, I feel moderation is the key here.

The odd "sexy" thread, or soapy lady is perfectly acceptable, though I wouldn't want to see the site full of it.

A thread that is clearly a bikini-laydee thread (e.g. the women appreciation thread) is perhaps a little crass, but in itself not that offensive.

However the purile and weak minded "phwoar" comments these threads seem to attract are totally unaccaptable. Not only do they degrade the women being photographed (who, frankly are paid for it) but they degrade the men who make them, and indeed men as a whole. It also reflects badly on scoobynet, whether we are geeks or not.
To be perfectly frank, most people who buy an impreza buy it because they are a car geek, anyway, so I sincerely doubt that scoobynet makes that much difference to the percieved image of a single brand of car. The two primary reasons for buying an impreza are that it is an amazing driving machine and all round good compromise car, or buying it for the "bling-bling" element.
The second reason tends to be rather ill informed. The former is (at least on some level) a bit geeky.

EvilBevel....I don't know what you're on about, but I am convinced you can be nicer about it.

So yes, there is a third camp: The "odd pictures in sensible quantities are okay" camp. Go out and buy a copy of Evo, or Car magazine. You DO get the odd nekkid lady in there. But it tends to be relatively tasteful. I would far rather Scoobynet was "BBC1" than "Bravo".
