Esso SUL or Shell Optimax

a mechanic at my local dealership said that the new scoobs run poorly with optimax. the day after the new scoobs where picked up a few came back complaining of hesitation.eventually they all came back all due to optimax allegedly !.the choice is yours. my choice
is BP 97 smooth running engine seems to be less noisey in 5th say
4-5 rpm. add any octaine with BP 97 seems to work very well.
i find optimax with octaine booster does not always seem to work.
that reminds me aidon octain booster that stuff is unreal nothing comes close to it. even a full tank later it still feels the same awsome power.

personaly, i use optimax cos i know its higher octane then sul
this reasures me that theres less chance of the jap engine going boom
im told the sti has a much more agressive map then the 276bhp wrx, so maybe the sti`s are gagging for optimax and booster, i am not sure that optimax blew up that blokes sti
im told a few cars can det with optimax and booster (still!!), the chances are unless u have sum sort of knock guage fitted u cant say that optimax blew your engine
jap cars need octane, it could be easy to say optimax blew your engine, how do u know your engine hasnt been run on 95 in the past?
how do u know your car was remapped for 102 ron only in the past??
etc etc
personal choice for me is optimax, higher ron, better protection, felt slightly faster after the reset,
millers octane booster is a load of crap
cant belive i read so many good threads about this tuff on scoobynet, will definatly NOT be buying this again
i bought 10 bottles on the advice of threads on this board
it raises the ron value by 2 points NOT 2 RON
there is 10 points to each 1 RON
so i was adding 0.2 ron with each fill up, hardly worth the money??
i did notice a very slight diffrence in the driveing, but not half as much as when i added sum proper 2/3 Full RON octane booster (20/30 points)
uk cars dont really need octane booster unless tuned up

As mentioned this topic has been killed in the past! I can say though that Optimax is not purely 98RON as the UK cannot sell 98RON fuel due to taxes etc. Soooo what they do is add some special additives to the 95RON stuff to bring it up to 98RON. This has an effect on some people who use Millers CVL as it doesnt mix with it very well. When i had my scoob i tried MIllers and it made no difference and on a couple of occasions my lights did go like a christmas tree on the knocklink. With NF though it felt a hell of a lot faster and not once did it knock. Mappers will also tell you that even though Optimax is not 98RON by pure form, it actually burns better than SUL and allows a couple more degrees of advance. So whatever Shell have added, its doing the trick.

I have a MY94 STI which is running at 1.05 bar. I have been told that the JDM STI does have a lot of ignition advance so could be prone to detonation. I use Optimax and have not tried any anti knock compound with it. The most I ever get on my Knocklink at WOT in 4th or top gear is a flash of one sometimes two green lights as the revs pass 3800 which is where the cams begin to do the business.
Optimax although claimed to be 98 octane is actually designed to be 98.7 octane when it is in peak condition. My car runs very smoothly at all rpm and I would not consider changing to a different fuel at the moment.
Les
PS. Cant think there are many Scoob drivers who can keep petrol in the tank long enough to have to worry about evaporative losses.

silkolene pro boost raises the ron value from 2 full ron to 3/4 full ron acording to which site u read, NF raises it by a whopping 6 FULL RON (from what i rember)
at the moment i have stopped useing booster and am useing plain optimax, the reasons?
im saving to have the car resprayed as its not shiney enough and patchy and im just pottering about the streets at the mo, cant justify the extra cost per tank when i will not be needing the extra octane anyway, when the cars painted i will be useing NF from then onwards
