Question

FASTER THAN A LOTUS CARLTON?
READ YOUR EVO MAG AGAIN AND GO TO THE BIT IT TALKS OF THE PERFORMANCE. IT CLAIMED TO DO 0-60 IN 6.3 AND TOP END 178 MPH(BUT THE GEARING WAS TO LONG),TRAME LINE STEERING WITH UNDERSTEER BECAUSE ITS FWD AND THE PRODUCTION MODEL WILL HAVE 30-50BHP LESS.
LOTUS CARLTON 0-60 4.8,0-100 10.6, TOPSPEED 176.
BYE BYE BEARDS!!!

For top end the Kompressor is faster than the Lotus Carlton. But for acceleration, the LC will hammer most things.

But you get what you pay for. Depending on what you want from your car, it is difficult to compare say a top of the range GSi to and all singing all dancing STi PPP. These cars have comparable top ends, but the Sti has the A & B road handling, where as the Vectra Gsi is an excellent long distance cruiser.

I have driven both, and picked a newer Vauxhall over a 3 year old STi. But I know the Sti would murder a GSi. But I was after a car that was fast enough, and quick enough, and able to sit a ton without the Mrs's having a go.

Ideally, an M3 saloon, would have been perfect, but sometimes you can't justify servicing and insurance for these types of cars.

It's all about life style, and what you want from your car.

Cool

This quoted 176mph top end for the LC is also bobbins as well. Its only capable of 176mph on the EXISTING tyres as they are not capable or rated to go faster.

Plenty of owners have been over 190mph with correct tyres.

Most big manufacturers always quote a lower top speed. Cavalier GSi 2ooo for instance is rated at 138mph, but will quite happily soar off the end of the speedo tapping the plastic surround, they do it to get a better insurance rating, because most people will never ever go that fast in the thing.

There is another LC that takes part in a desert race across Nevada, and all entrants have to be able to do more than 170mph to compete. Seeing as the LC is up against Dodge Vipers and the like, its unnerving to note that the LC is consistently the third fastest car in the line up, and the second fastest accelerating car

Isnt the gearing in top on an LC something ridiculous like 44mph/1000rpm.

If you could red line that you would do over 260mph. but 176 would only be 4000rpm .
What a cruiser.

Of course I might have this wrong.

Its actually 280mph if you could redline it in 6th!

The new Vectra Kompressor is a bit of a joke really. It has this 'mythical' 177mph top end, yet its 0-60 is a pathetic 6.4 (which fact fans is the same as a standard Cavalier Turbo!).

I'm a Vauxhall fan, but I'm sorry, a Supercharged 3.2 V6 should be able to wipe the floor with a standard Cav Turbo, and thats getting on for ten years old!

If its the same setup as the Omega, having 4 catalytic converters is a bit of a bottleneck I think!

3.6 litre twin turbo straight six RWD versus 3.2 litre supercharged V6 FWD...... I think the LC has the Vectra licked somehow!

Nikko2....i think the CS1 225bhp/239 lbft torque upgrade is a superchip but i could be wrong...i know the CS2 CS3 CS4 are remaps which they have done in conjuntion with Ditto Manzel in Germany which is done thru the dynastics port ....i've got the CS3 with 258bhp & 270 lbft which includes a 9 lt intercooler

its only noticable if they go looking for any changes

17.3 secs to 100, thats dog slow for a 200bhp front wheel drive car.

Fiat copue is heavier with 20bhp and is 3 secs quicker to hundred !
From what I have seen 17-18 is about average for most of these fast circa 200BHP FWD cars like Cupra R etc.

The fiat coupe is the one that is the odd one out not the other way around
