Whats the diff types of new astra turbo's? And what do u guys think of them?
|
AFAIK you can only buy the GSi turbo now. The SRi turbo was just a limited edition stop gap until the GSi came out.
2.0 turbo 197 bhp 184 lb/ft 0-60 - 6.6 0-100 - 17.3 max - 138 weight - 1250kg |
D'oh.. forgot about the Coupe Turbo
|
138mph??
The sales literature states 150mph. |
figures from Autocar roadtest. Didn't Autocar also test the SRi turbo's claimed 150mph and again only managed the high 130's.
I suppose it depends how long your bit of test track is or if it's on a banked oval...... |
17.3 secs to 100, thats dog slow for a 200bhp front wheel drive car.
Fiat copue is heavier with 20bhp and is 3 secs quicker to hundred ! |
Its available as a 3-dr hatchback, coupe, convertible and also in the Zafira. You can also get it as an estate on the continent.

he was probably talking about the 20V turbo which I presume is faster being a 5 cylinder.
|
the fiat coupe 20v turbo is quicker than that though. about 14.5-15 secs i think, and 160ish mph
|
160ish mph |
... Which is probably about 165 on a Fiat speedo ?!

Fiat copue is heavier with 20bhp and is 3 secs quicker to hundred ! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fiat Coupe 2.0 16v Turbo 195bhp 0-100 - 18.3 weight - 1280kg Ok then, a little maths lesson here. 200bhp plus twenty bhp equals 220bhp, not 195bhp ;) I was indeed about the 5 cylinder 20v turbo. I assumed that people on here would have a basic knowledge of cars and mathmatics ! ;) :D It's still slow to 100 for a 200bhp car though ain't it ! :D |
17.3 secs to 100, thats dog slow for a 200bhp front wheel drive car Faster than a bug-eye WRX though! ;) |
...and the 1340 kg (90 kg more) 4th gen Prelude VTEC with 183 bhp posts 6.6 to 60 mph and 17.2 to 100 mph according to a Performance Car test in 1993. So much for power to weight ratios or mid range torque being the main factors in acceleration eh? The Astra easily wins on both counts but is still slightly slower to 100 mph! How does it do that then?

IRRC the fiat coupe 20v turbo was 14.5 to 100
Think the current astra turbo may be in the 18's as vauxall may have changed the gearing as not to tred on the flagship coupe's toes etc etc Just speculating though.... |
ANORAK CORNER....
:D:D:D ap_coupe.. Its pretty fast mate... Never been a big fan of Vauxhalls but these days they ain't that bad... according to the peeps in the know, the new chassis is pretty good and engines are generally not overly refined but are tough as old boots and will normally go to high mileages... to say its dog slow is b0ll0x... for a front drive car to hit 60mph in a shade under 7secs (EVO could only do it in 7secs :D) is pretty darn good.. especially when you look at the retail price. When you look at the new Astra GSI, Civic Type-R, Leon Cupra R etc... there may be the odd second in it on the in-gear times in the mags, but there won't be much in it on the road.. alot depends upon road surface type, conditions, etc.. and figures will vary from car to car.. 2 secs slower to 100mph than a Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo... wow... that'll be about 4 or 5 car lengths tops in the real world... and that's if you manage to get to 100mph... at lower speeds there would be sod all in it... Bottom line...Its fast and looks to be good value... if its your thing then buy it... nuff said :D:D |
cheers m8!Being lazy now dont suppose any of u know what insurance group they are?
|
****e I'd rather buy a skip
|
insurance group 15
|
Still dog slow ! :D ;)
|
Hey..don't knock it till you have tried it, my son recenly bought the coupe Turbo, and it's very snappy, I admit not as fast as the Scoob but still abloody quick car.
Cheers Colin |
A skip will probably handle better than the Vauxhall
|
rokerlad have u driven one?
Ok older vauxhalls ewerent so great, but just pisses me off when people reserve judgement on a car just cos of the badge. Only thing I did not like about it was the interior, very bland, worse than a scooby I thought! Good news is cos of all these negative thoughts depreciation is huge so in a year or two can pick them up dirt cheap :) |
They're surprisingly quick. Not too hot off the lights but have a decent mid-range kick.
Had a blast in one about a year back and was impressed by its straight line performance. Doesn't handle too well or feel that well made, but not a bad motor for the money. |
i agree with Carpetcleaner :)
|
I have got a gsi on order will let you know what its like when I get it.
|
i've got the coupe...the book says 152mph but only took it up to 145 it might of gone a bit quicker as there was quite a few cars on the m/way ..now i have 258bhp @ 6750rpm and 270.lbft @ 3614rpm and the tuner says this will rise it to 160+ as the limiter as been raised also..the problem with these turbo's is that they are small as there is not much room under the bonnet so they dont hold boost..i think its about 8psi...with the upgrade i now have 1.4 bar on full tilt for a sec but this will not hold and goes down to .9 bar..but they do spool up very quickly and theres hardly any lag
the only test of any kind i've done and the tuner is 30-100 in forth and got 12.6 and we did this about 6 times ...launching off the line is a waist of time as i get nothing but wheel spin and loads of torque steer.. the next step i'll be doing is the hybrid..this will hold boost at high revs around 23psi and will go towards 300bhp mark... also fitting a LSD will help with steering as this will make it turn into the corners better.. at the end of the day it will never be good as a 4wd but makes for a good m/way cruiser i'm getting about 30.5 mpg combined which is good as i'm normally cruising along on m/ways between 70-90 ...in standard form your getting 35+mpg... insurance is 15 3 yrs warrenty and the level of eqipment isnt bad also |

Firstly, the Astra Turbo in whatever guise is more like 3 seconds slower to 100 than a Fiat Coupe 20VT. Secondly, even if it was just 2 seconds slower, it would be a lot more than 4-5 car lengths gap!! More like 10-12 car lengths...... |
Ive only ever seen them in the rear view mirror and there normally twitching with torque steer.
Pile o pants!!!! |
