No need for avatars. IMHO the sites that do have them are cluttered and harder to read. Then there's the issue of soft **** avatars. I have stopped using some forums due to these avatars for fear of falling foul of unsafe images at work.

Turn off everybodies avatar or just your own? If it's everybodies then fine. If not, then i really don't want to look at them for a lot of the reasons posted by others above, and because what some people think are "kool", "witty", or "good guides to a user's personality" I generally find cringeworthy. There's too much crap on each page as it is.
I would rather an option to make the page look as plain as possible to make it more work friendly - i.e. remove the orange and black and all the flashing lights, blobs and general clutter.

Yes, it would have to be everybodies avatar that the user could turn off otherwise it would be pointless. I agree to a fair extent that the pages should be as plain as possible to make things more user friendly. Although, I do not mind the orange and black
I'm even still on the 'classic' format for Scoobynet. Is anyone on the 'new' format?

Those that dont like avatars..... let them turn them off in user panel
