been asked about a year ago, so will try again, ?

I assume cos this site is sooooo busy it would take bandwidth up to stupid levels - well even more stupid than they currently are
|
Take 1 look at that TT forum from that link the other day. It looks like a joke - far too messy and fussy and slow.
|
Avatars are ok if they were limited to 100x100 or something that would be cool. Linked in from your own site so it didnt use ScoobyNet bandwidth.
Signatures however, as per ScoobyJawa said are NOT ok!!! They can really end up making the posts look cluttered and shyte!! The smooth clean look on the posts here is great! Anyway, a vote here for self-linked 100x100 restricted avatars :) Andy [Edited by SiDHEaD - 5/14/2003 3:16:19 PM] |
yeah agree with the signatures, a real mess but a liddlebiddy avatar :D some are well amusing on the MLR
check out skiddusmarkus 1 on this thread here |
It's also more difficult to pretend you're working hard when there's pictures of cars/bikes/etc. all over the screen. :)
|
Agree with Swan on that ;)
|
Srealth approach here to !
Boss thinks I'm answering e mails all day :D |
PMSL @ skiddusmarkus :D:D:D:D:D that's fantastic :D
|
why would you want them.......very gay IMHO
|
just a bit off amusement thats all
|
waste of space :D
|
waste of bandwidth
|
Simon did a survey for the users, a while back and copped so much flak about it and had such a negative reaction that he dropped the idea.
Moving to bugs and features.. |
Time for another look at avatars?
I suggest : 80x80 pixels 20k maximum Only SN+ members can display them Option to turn them off if you really dont want to see them Scoobynet has enough adverts plastered over it, I really dont think a few tiny tiny avatars for SN+ members only is going to spoil it. |
bttt.
I'd like a reply :) |

As long as people can turn them off I dont see why we cant have them. Give them to SN+ users and allow us to display some individuality!
As for claiming clutter, look at the size of some peoples avatar collection.... http://www.jaybird.myby.co.uk/scoobynet/big.gif:rolleyes: The size I am proposing would be like this http://www.jaybird.myby.co.uk/scoobynet/scooby2.gif |
Have to agree Jay. This is mine on other forums!

thats quality

no comment from mods?
|
comment from mods would be nice?
|
On another forum I'm active on we use avatar limits of:
140x140 and 6Kb size limit An example of my 140pix @ 6K size: http://type20.co.uk/images/avatar2a.jpg 6K is plenty big for a pic that size If that's too big you could set it to 80x80 and 4k? http://type20.co.uk/images/avatar2b.jpg That should be teeny enough surely in this land of broadband? There are mods in PHPBB so you can switch off avarars/sigs if you don't want to see them. I assume that something like that exists for this forum type too? |
with the amount of ****e thats shown with each post now, you would think that its not a problem ??
|
comment from the mods now please?
I will join SN+ for avatars :) |
Very M*x P*wer
|
I post on a few boards where avatars are allowed, I quite like them as the image can be very descriptive about the poster's personality.
That said, I'm damned if I would pay for the privilege of showing one :) |
No mod reply ....... What a surprise  !!
For those that don't want Avatars .... Don't have them!!! , for those at work ...... Do your work and stop complaining that 'The boss will see' , If you want to use the internet at work, become your own boss ;) , you are there to work aren't you ? Externally linked Avatars should make no difference at all to bandwidth, and with the clutter with all the tags as above, isn't work safe for the 'work-shy' anyway. I have to say AGAIN, the lack of Mod response, gives an idea as to why this site is getting worse and worse. Agree with NO sig's argument, too cluttering. |
I really dont see the problem....
If you dont want to see them, turn them off in user panel If you want them then use them! Externally link as said above to save SN bandwidth, win-win for everyone |
*cough*
