i used to have a modded 306 too, fat cars had a 406 sri 2.0l turbo lump in it, went alright at about 220 bhp, but nothing on the scoob.

Got an import now with some engine mods (prob over 300 bhp judging by similar spec cars) and it goes pretty well..... well when its no being a wan ker and refusing to go over 9psi like it was the other day lol.

Id like to have a 600 bhp scoob personally and a 1000 bhp r34 while your at it, but at the end of the day at 22 i cant afford them. So can totally understand people driving uk scoobies, yes theyre slower, yes theyre heavier and yes they have worse specs.... but the insurance man dont con you as hard

I totally agree chuka. I love my RB5 and as far as I'm concerned it is quick. That's not to say there aren't faster cars out there. I personally have no interest in seeing which cars I can beat in a straight line. Where is the skill in that? Stick your foot down, watch the revs, change gear - repeat as necessary!
I also am not that interested in racing other cars on the famous twisties - whether you are in front or behind, you are relying to a certain extent on the other driver. I do like to give my car some stick, but I will do it on my own, where and when conditions allow. For me the fun is just having a bit of a blast down a country road and the RB5 allows to do this at a reasonable pace, without pushing it anywhere near its limits. But that's just me. Each to their own.

Oh, and my car is unmodified (apart from PPP) - that is why straight line speed is not so interesting to me , as I have had no input into making it go any quicker. (hastily added in case my "no skill " comment was taken the wrong way.)

If a car blasts past me on a dual carraigway thats fine be me.
Taking after him is one sure way to loose your licence
The real fun is on the twisties
Thats where i think the car is best put to use

WTF?
The straight line speed of the Impreza never was it's starring role.
It is famed for it's out of the box ability as a B-road destroyer.
Very, very few cars as they came from the factory this side of £60k could keep up with an Impreza through challenging roads.
The fact that Autocar timed the 1999 turbo at 14.? seconds to a ton was perhaps astonishing when this was a £20k motor.
My mate has a tuned 200SX which is bloody quick but to drive it fast on any road is just much much g=harder than an Impreza. I find it rather odd that Impreza owners are at all bothered at being out accelerated by someone in a different car. Take most of these people round your typical English back lanes and they won't be laughing for long. I took out a friend of a mate for a spin who owns a 1998 550 maranello. He waxed lyrical about how fast it was and I agreed to show him how fast an Impreza was and he practically crapped himself as he 'thought we were gonna die'
Worry not for when the conditions are right for this car it shines like more or less no other.

Mines did 13.4 dead at Crail on its first outing. Your car isn't standard though sticky. Its fairly standard, but changing the zorst on a scooby does make a difference
