They will murder the C2/C4 on the straights, but a 996 turbo (esp. with tiptronic) is another matter.

I think Autocar recently did a 3-way shootout between the E55, M5, & XJR. They said the engine of the E55 is way ahead of it's chassis.

I really think the w210 e55 (4 eyes) is really good value for money , as Ive seen a few under 20k with reasonable miles.

Not tempted though, but weighing up when it was new , it seems a bargin. Anyone know the performance on that ??

0-60 between 5 to 6 secs. Top speed is, as always, limited to 155mph. The car has I think 367bhp.

Yep, all the AMG 55`s have superchargers at the moment (Or kompressor`s in Benz speak)

The C32 AMG and the SLK 32 AMG are also supercharged.

The CLK55 AMG is normally aspirated.

Basically

1) There aint the room to put the blower in properly on the CLK
2) It would be ludicrously, stupidly, insanely fast and the chassis not all that hot.

Oh... and it keeps the other models 'premium'.

The brand new 2003 E55 is the first E-class to have a blower... all the previous ones have been N/A

I think they didn't put the Kompressor into the CLK cos of marketing reasons. It is also y the E55 has less claimed power than the SL/CL/S55, despite the identical engines.
For Mercedes, their flagships are the S, SL, & CL, so nothing can be more powerful than them (excluding the Maybach).
I think someone such as Brabus will put the blower into the CLK, afterall, that blower is just fitted between the 2 banks of cylinders.

Well I didn`t know that! But then again I`m not likely to be in the market for a Benz anyhow.

btw, do you know why the CLK 55 AMG doesn`t have a supercharger? Is it just to confuse clowns like me?
