The Lexus Soarer Twin Turbo - Japanese import

The lexus soarer, 2.5ltr twin turbo straight 6, 24 Valve, with a top speed so far of 158mph, reaching 0-60mph in 5.4 sec's (may I add 0.2 seconds slower than the impreza). With 310 BHP at a reachable 7500Rpm and 280lb ft of torque, the torque graph is virtually flat throughout the rev range.

Also with trackday settings, you can turn on or off to give an extra 30bhp, stiffening the steering and suspension

With Variable power steering and electrically modulated suspension that adapts accordingly to how you drive. The soarer comes standard with ABS but is a no cost factory extra to not have the ABS fitted for a more "direct feel".

The main engine block is machined out of alloy, which is better for lightness as are all the engine internals, the turbine and impellars in the turbo are made out of ceramic for super light and double fast spool up to usable boost! The engine is said to be the best engine ever to come out of japan, and was co developed with yamaha designed to run at 600Bhp.
Wheels - 16x7" alloys are wrapped in 195/55/16 tyres with a choice of 3, 10 or lattice wheels as standard with 12" brake discs at front and 11" at the rear!
The soarer comes standard with full electrics, digital climate control with air conditioning and most have leather interior,................also with a 3d digital dash display!

Thumbs down

To clear some more wrong assumptions, I am known 'everywhere' as Mycroft, I drive a Soarer TT, I drive it damned fast I am known for that too.

I post as V-bird on the MLR, but have the AKA Mycroft underneath to ensure no deceit, I used to post as Iain on the 200sx site, but they all knew me as Mycroft also.

I do not bother with this multi-posting-personalities crap as I am arrogant enough to want every post I make to be 'mine'.

I see failure to show yourself as weakness and contemptible.

No but i must admit i wouldnt mind a go in one just to see if they are as good as you guys make out , i dont think i could do the car justice as im much better on a bike than in a car , but no matter how well it drives IMO it still looks pants , as in it is understated , i do not deny that it is no doubt a very capable performance car but i hold by the adage 'there's no replacement for displacement' , what is the weight re the sup .

UK Supe 1625kg
J-spec Supe 1495kg
Soarer TT 1505 - 1585kg (dependent on equipment levels... sunroof adds 55kgs! due to ensuring the structural integrity is maintined)

Mycroft, i think you need those rims on yours, they are great.

I would have to say that IMO the Skyline R34 engine is the best one to come out of Japan. But as i said that is just my opinion.

Is the car in the UK? Was it made by Toyota Racing Development as suggested by the sticker?

Sounds like a lot of power for a RWD

What's the dc? 206 mph for 565 bhp is quite good, isnt it?!

Soarers , available in auto / manual , % of the 2 types , surely the soarer is at a disadvantage with a smaller lump and more weight than a j-spec sup (less torque) , havent driven mine much but it doesnt seem to suffer unduly from lag , is the 2.5 that different to drive ???

From what I know about Supras (not a lot), that should read "he bounces around in a Supra"

Hate to admit it but that blue one does look quite nice , BUT it is not my cup of tea , its just the sup gets so many looks , i guess the soarer is more of a 'sleeper'

What do you Soarer blokes think of Skylines then? Superficially at least, they have certain similarities apart from awd on the Nissan.

Revs are a good replacement for displacement... ask anyone in F1.

The TT is artificially limited to 7300rpm, 10mins with a handheld and it is back to 8200 and 'soft cut' as in mine at 8000+

Even the V8 Soarer can be set to run 7400 before the 'soft cut' and that is a 4ltr!

At some point you may get a go in one like mine... you can put my Soarer against a 450hp Supe and I will outdrag it in every aspect... Manual or Auto... been there done it.

As for when the road is anything but straight the Supe is just an also ran...

The Soarer 1JZ and the Skyline RB25/26 are brothers!

They are both based on the theory behind the TMS research engine of 1988!

They share the same bore almost identical stroke are made form the same high tech alloy and even have the same head design courtesy of Yamaha...

If you take a 1JZ and RB25 engines apart some of the bits will transpose from one to the other... even the head bolts and cylinder spacings are identical...

Not a surprise... Toyota and Nissan jointly paid for the research motor from TMS....

I love Skylines... well, the R33 specifically... to me the more curvaceous a car the better... the 32 was a bit boxy and the 34 to 'butch' for my tastes... looks are personal tho... same as colour... technically they are as much a 'tour de force' as the Soarer, just in a different way.

Mycroft , have you ever run your car at the strip , if so what sort of time would it get , and if they are so good/easy to tune how come the yanks dont bother but sell a lot of supra stuff , revs may cut it when your up and running but round town/corners torque will allways triumph , look at the superbikes the fours cant live with the twins

The RB rotates in the opposite direction and that is just a legacy of Nissan buying the old Austin Cambridge 1622cc for their then 'flagship' cars in the 50's... the RB also has to be tilted to make provision for the 4WD (front) components.

The TMS motor can turn in CW or ACW perfectly well.

I have run a 12.2 with her as she is now... 0-100-0 in less than 15secs...

The soarer TT has the turbos providing puff at 1800 rpm and 10lbs at 2250rpm... trust me... 2.5 ltrs at 10 pounds is like 4ltr N/A

The Supe at 2250rpm has 5lbs of boost... 3ltrs at 5lbs is like 4ltrs again...

But the real difference is the urgency that 10lbs can give the next step up the rev range... the long stroke 3ltr is still trying to build 'usable' boost... the Soarer is already there and very ready and willing...

Claudius, get your evo out and ill race you for a decent amount of cash at any circuit you want , trouble is i will be on a GSXR1000 and you wont even see it for long enough to wonder what happened.
Mycroft that is a really good time , i was hoping to get in the 11's with some hybrids and a bit of gas , ive had a 10 second street car but that was yank based and not viable for day to day use.

I think perhaps Claudius is showing you how annoying people carping from the side really is... just a thought... and a point very well made I think... I suffered that with almost every post on the MKIV... fvcking irritating ain't it!

All Turbos' suffer lag... their presence alone ensures this... but because the boost is started so early and the turbos are the lowest mass devices that could be made it is largely insignificant... but as you should be aware... the perfect companion to a Turbo motor is the Auto'box... whilst you are waiting for the turbos to spool the box is shifting the gears and by the time the turbos are on song the box has done its work and you are away with no discernable lag... that is the great bonus of a Torque convertor attached to a turbo motor... design it right and the whole thing is like a well orchestrated symphony...
