Silver Indicator Bulbs for Rear MY03

I've got a mini group buy (just 2 people ) for an order coming from the US.
Trouble is that I want to get the bulbs and confirm they're correct (going with 7440 fitment bulbs - which AFAIK is identical, as is T-20), before informing the masses.
The manufacturer is on back-order at present - I won't see the bulbs for another 4 weeks yet
Only ones that appear to be available (in small numbers) are Polar-G G-71s, but they cost $20 US per bulb (made in Japan - haven't been able to find a non-US supplier)!
I will let everyone (inc. Trouser@TSL) know how I get on, as soon as the things get here...

You say these places only really want to ship to US or Canada?
I'm going to Canada for the first two weeks in September. If you can confirm fitment/suitability etc of the ones you've ordered, I could bring a few back...

Magic!
4-6 weeks is only a little longer than mine are supposed to take from the US...
Any prices? I'm currently paying £6 each including shipping (but may get stung on Taxes).

I notice they have clear version of the bulbs in Halfords for <£2 each.
I might have a bash at tinting orange, then spraying silver as a stopgap...

Yes I've seen these too but couldn't see anything specifically suited (or so I thought) to making them silver but flash orange. Let me know how you get on.
Cheers

The trick has got to be to do it in two coats
1 Amber (but transparent) - not sure whether Halfords sell this, cos obv. regular amber paint would stop the light coming through... - I know the stuff is definately available from model shops etc though.
1 silver - I'm pretty sure this doesn't need to be transparent, cos it only needs to mask the amber layer. 1-2 light dustings of a silver paint should have the right effect.
I'm busy this weekend - camping in Wales - but will hopefully get a chance to try it in an evening next week.

Fast! Bulbs arrived 8:55 on Saturday morning and I didn't order them til 3:30!
Back done - much improved - front to follow when I get a couple of hours spare.
Word of warning on the side indicators. They are complete units, so you can't get rid of the yolk effect that easily. I want a crystal finish pair anyway so it's not too much of a problem, but thought I'd mention it
PS yes 25 quid is too much, but I've been waiting since before I got the car in April! (And the US companies are still all on back order!)

No digi-cam
I'm gonna use up the remainder of the current film in my camera when I do the headlights, but that means pics by next weekend at the earliest.
What I can tell you is that the rear indicators look more like the reversing lights - don't really notice the difference between silver and clear (until they light up obv.) - marked improvement IMHO.

Cool
I was gonna email you to see how you were getting on with the hunt for the bulbs - Ive not been on SNET for ages and have been catching up over the last week or two.
One question on the rears - did you have difficulty getting the orange bulbs out?
Ages ago when we started talking about this I had a fiddle with them to try and pop them out but I couldnt - felt like something was gonna break, and without having any replacements I left it.
Probably just doing it wrong - was it straightforward enough?
Will have to order some asap

Rears are easy-peasy (hardest part is trying to get the trim back together neatly!).
I did break the foam cover thingy on my rear-nearside, but I'm pretty sure it does nothing anyway. With a little more care I managed the offside damage free. Just twist the bulb holder and ease the whole lot (inc bulb) out of the cluster. It's just possible to do it without breaking the foam. Then give the bulb a tug out of its socket and plug the new one in.
AFAIK any of the side repeaters for MY01 onwards can be used for the 03 and the bulb is normally seperate to the side repeater unit (hence how they all come with orange bulbs so you can be charged more for silver ones ). The only thing I have to check is that the connector fits...
(Edited cos the side repeaters are easy to remove, but some people don't like me posting details of how to do it...)

Not sure I have the ***** to stick my headlights in the oven!!!
For the rears, it was getting the actual bulb out if the socket that I couldnt do....but as I said, I held back in case I broke it, as I had no replacements. I'm sure it will be easy when I actually come round to change them over.
Still waiting for mine to turn up - hoping they'll turn up in the morning.

well I meant "won't"
push 'em towards the front of the car and they fall out into your hand...
But you can't get the bulbs out, so further outlay needed to ScoobyWorld to get some new side repeaters.

lol, another 30-odd quid for crystal side repeaters and bulbs then!
My bulbs for the rear turned up at 8am, so I am going out in a sec to fit them.
I have a digital camera so if I can dig it out (and the batteries arent flat!) I will post piccies shortly - as I havent seen any others yet.......
