Differences with Sti/RA/STi RA/STi RA Limited.
Nope, I went to look at an MY97 2 door WRX before I bought my car, it had a roof vent but it wasn't an STi model.
IIRC the RA is the fastest accelerating Impreza avaible off the peg, 0-60 figures listed around 4.6 seconds

From my understanding:
There's the normal WRX - which can come in Type RA form (which was the GRP A & N rally shell pre 97 IIRC).
This can also come in WRX STi and WRX STi vLtd form to make the WRX STi Type RA and WRX STi Type RA vLtd (like mine
)
With the WRX STi version 3, they introduced a 2 door shell (type R) which they subsequently switched to for the rally shell rather than the 4 door RA shell.
As far as I know there's never been a 2 door shell in the UK, the P1's are built from STi Type R shells brought over and modified by Prodrive so I'm not sure where a WRX 2 door could come from.
Also remember that subaru option lists are usually pretty comprehensive - identifying a car by it's components is a bit haphazard. Even if it wasn't a factory option, it's totally possible someone has modified it after purchase. The only real way to be sure is by chassis number.

but that chassis code comes out as :
GC8E2DD 300 WRX R STi4 2 door
GC8E2DD 300 (353N-m) WRX R STi4 V-Limited 2 door Special edition
Both of which feature STi feature code on the 6th character?
8 is WRX
E is STi
D is Sti Type R & RA

Love this kind of thread <chuckle> discussing RA variants is always top sport
but WRX type R's I knew would really get things going !!Good to see the 'usual suspects' here (Hi Chris !!)
In a (probably) futile attempt to get this thread back to trying to help out Diablo007 ... I would recommend any of the V-lim models just see what comes up with a complete history in top condition ... take careful note of any mods.
For me, my version VI RA V-lim is just awsome
Note: the V-lim is in fact inaccurate it's just we all tend to refer to them as v-lim's .... should just be 'lim' I s'pose !
Cheers
Adam
I have seen the version 6 limited brochure and it was listed as
STI WRX Type RA VI Limited
WRX Type RA Limited
Teh WRX dont have a version number the STIs do. The V in V-LIM can only be used for version 5 STIs
.

I have the same brochure ... LOL
... will still refer to them as V-lims

Did you ever come accross the bit about version VI's having suretrack diffs ??
Did you make any other changes to yours other than BB, radio and wheels ??
Cheers
Adam
Ok think I am getting a little lost with all this. But all useful stuff mind !
I like the 2 door type R myself ! Plus I want mod cons (Air con, Electric winds/mirrors and stuff). The limited edition version 6 looks perfect. Although not sure how much the difference there is with no ABS and a center diff?
Anyway looking at the Sti 6 brochure there is the RA and RA STi Ltd. So the RA is the more stripped out version and a bit qwicker and the Sti has some of the nicer bits kinda a 4 door version of the type r......right?
Any difference other than that. So if I like the 2 door shall i just buy a TYpe r then ?
Thanx for all the advice and knowledge btw!!

Not heard anything about the diffs, except on the 7s. Interested to find out though if they did.
Pretty much standard except
18"s
TSL centre section
Scoobysport bb
ITG filter
front clear indicators
blue side indicators
spray the orange wedges blue
blue WRX logo mats
3 defi guages with centre pod with control box
STI style smoked fog light protectors
scooby related personal plate
and a few sidc stickers

To add yet more fuel to the fire!
My WRX is a v limited
It's got some sti bits on it, a funky gearbox, appears to have a closed deck block, is quicker than any other wrx I've driven with the same mods.
Maybe subaru are just trying to confuse us??

Just found this on the web
http://www2.famille.ne.jp/~hasi/car/mtlist.html
It's mainly in japanese, but it does mention WRX type RA with a chassis code of GC8F

How's the handling on 18s ?? You not been tempted to 'open the bonnet' ?? The results you can get from a visit to Uncle Bob (Rawle) are pretty impressive

Diablo007
Very even ... try both.
My only suggestion would be to invest in some monitoring gear (knocklink, lambdalink boost gauge tyupe stuff).
Cheers

but it just feels more like a race car now
. Not been tempted to have it remapped, seems to run okay as is and after over two years still feels mighty quick.
Glad to see you still havce yours Adam, probably like me finding it difficult to find a replacement. I have been toying with the idea of a 911 but it would have to be a turbo and they aint cheap
.
Type R vs EVO 6 ?
Straight line, quick answer anyone ?
Straight line, quick answer anyone ?
Been thinking for a while about the wheels question, will prolly go to 17's unless someone can give me a good reason to do 18s instead. The other big question is suspension ... only stuff that comes close is proflex but that's serious $$$$$$$.
I have to admit to being singularly unimpressed with 911's (non-turbos), they just don't suit the driving I do (IMO) ... which is B road blasting in all weathers.
Would definately recommend the antilift kit.
I think I'll have the RA for quite a while
