Those members are what attracts the banner adds that are paid for.
Its a 2 way thing..
I have seen for sale threads break down as the seller just wont "play ball" ie answer emails. send pics.. reply to offers. Does no member have the right to challenge this attitude??

We provide a medium & general guidelines to which we adhere/enforce, which allows potential private vendors & buyers a place to come together.
We are not nannies
We cannot force a vendor or buyer to answer emails/stick to deals/wrap goods properly etc
Like Luke, be REAL!!

Ok..but can we??? if they dont have the manners to follow a sale through at any stage .Then a member should be allowed to question it.

Please don't resort to that - not wanted & not helpful
Back to the subject...
If you can come up with a way of making people wrap parcels/honour deals etc etc then by all means post it or email it to Webmaster@scoobynet.co.uk for consideration.
In the meantime - there will be NO questioning of deals in the FS forum, under the guidelines already mentioned on this thread.

Luke, I see where you're going with this, but IMHO it's unworkable. At the end of the day, an element of mutual trust between supposed enthusiasts will have to exist.
I'm selling my car today; both the seller and buyer have to be cautious, especially for the sort of money we're talking here. I think both "caveat vendor" and "caveat emptor" applies.
Scoobynet cannot be involved in a witch hunt if something goes wrong from either side's perspective; after all, no-one apart from the two parties involved will know the real score, and I would place money on the two stories not agreeing if things have gone wrong. Facts become fluid when trust breaks down.
Cheers,
Nick.

Replace SN with the sales columns in your local rag.
If you get stung over something that's worth £50 or £100, do you expect the paper to run it as a front page story demanding retribution?

Stung..... If so are we allowed to post about it???
Also some sellers cannot make their mind up who they are ....... There is one advert that the guy is using 2 x usernames. 2 x emails. 1x trade profile.
This if noticed, should be mentioned to the mods (Which is has)
Sure its a hard call to make when moderating.... Thats for sure.

it seems to me that the mods are on a different wavelength......
i will make it more clear.....
lets say i have something that i say its brand new.....ok....and i put it for sale on the FS.i dont advertise what this costs. however i find websites on the net that give my product the maximum price to mislead the buyer.
another concious scoobynetter sees it elsewhere cheaper and his conciousness says him to do the right thing to protect his fellow scoobynetters
now i come to my point of view..........why shouldnt we feel free to say our opinion on that?
i think i made my point clear

It's a very difficult decision to make. Using this as an analogy.
A shop puts a hifi up for sale for 600 quid. On the internet it's for sale for 450 quid.
Should we stand outside the shop telling everyone they can get it cheaper? or do we rely on the buyer to find the cheaper price.

It's not that simple i'm afraid.
Some people take great delight in scuppering other people's sales just by saying 'don't pay that pay this' even though the for sale price is perfectly ok.
Another set of people get their mates to try and bid stupid prices for item, with the sole intention of defrauding the seller.
So it works both ways.
If you read the guidelines in for sale then they are pretty fair for both sides.
Our whole economy relies in effect by putting the onus on the buyer to look for the best price. This then drives the seller to reduce the cost as the buyers will then go to the cheapest place.
If you can suggest a way to stop the scupperers in any other way then please let us know.

good pont..split the for sale forum up into sections.
Getting mates to help buy a car cheaper is an old one.
One comes around and has a look. tampers with car... .
next one comes along and point problem out...
sellers get worried ... buyer comes along with a low offer..... seller panics and sells car.
Also have known buyers to steal from cars. Had a guy try to steal a very expensive control box from a quattro..... Came to look at car with so that he could nick it!! But got caught as it was alarmed.

Just another point i would like to make based on Stavros's post above.
Lets assume buyer x is selling say rubber banded fish splines for £300, but replier z see's that he can purchase new fish splines for £180 off the net and posts and says so, therefore scuppering any future sale of the item for x (potentially) and also making x a tad miffed with replier z.
But there may be mitigating circumstances as to the price differences which poster z may not be aware of, which is the reason the price appears or is so different.
1. The item seen on the net could be for sale in a foreign country with a much lower price therefore not including things like VAT, import tax, shipping etc.
2. Advertised price online could be quoted net of taxes and delivery an easy way for companies to appear cheap.
3. The item online could be purchased from a non authorised dealer who is importing avoiding taxes as much as possible, allowing him to sell much lower than the RRP, but with only that shop offering there own warranty, whereas the item for sale could have a lifetime guarantee / backup from the main distributor if purchased officially which the cheaper item would not have.
Bearing the above in mind, should replier z have the right to post querying the price online and make the for sale post look expensive?
Personally i'm starting to think for the moderators sake the FS forum should be a one topic forum and all other comments take place by email between interested parties, would certainly make the mods life easier!

So in the hunt 4 the holy grail Wood it b OK to post a link with acurate & final price type thingies where it's cheaper than RRP's or wotever quoted? or does this have 2b private messaged 2 any1 who says they r interested ?
Appreciate it's buyer who needs 2 get the info but while it may rain on the sellers parade i dont c how not bitchy & purely informative info is a big turn off 4 any1?
obviously devil in detail & there clearly is no win win situation but i have resisted pointing people 2 cheaper prices on threads so as not 2 agravate seller but equally i'd like 2 inform buyers without having 2 mail all & sundry 2 me if it aint pointless posting of thats shyte i can get cheaper type anwswers then surely having relevant & helpful info on a thread is wot scoobynet is all about?

Luke, why do you spend so much time on this site? You sound like one bored sumbiatch to me, with nothing better to do then get into arguements/discussions just for the sake of it. Have you got a job? Perhaps you should look for a more stimulating one that may occupy you some more so you need spend less time swaping electronic communication with strangers on a car enthusiasts BBS. I'm amazed the mods are wasting their time with you to be honest, if they were paid I'd hope Simon would give them a slap for all this unproductive bickering with one member of a 10k strong community.

If YOU posted something up for sale anywhere, at a price based on your own research and knowledge, which you thought would be acceptable, yet when ever the phone rings or you receive an email, the communication is purely negative, pretty much in the same way the posts referred to previously are.
What would you do, if someone camped outside your house, and canvassed all prospective buyers, stating that they were going to be robbed if they purchased what ever item at your price.
Would you feel offended? Upset that your knowledge seems to be way off the mark? Or would you continue to try and sell it?
If someone came along and offered you asking price, without a hint a haggling, would you accept, whilst knowing that you are probably overpriced, or would you inform them that they are paying over the odds?
The majority of people when buying things DO research into them with regard to prices, variants, adn so forth. So if their research and knowledge has mis lead them into offering slightly over the odds for something, then is that not their fault for lack of research.
In most cases when you advertise something normally, eg a paper, you would not reciev any calls if the product is genuinely over priced.
So if no one replied on SN to ads that are over priced, then the seller should eventually get the picture and amend their price.
It should not be done by other users of the bbs, publicly, in an insulting and offensive manner.
The simplest way to put your point across, without offending anyone in public, is to mail them with your views directly. Just make sure that your views are as reasoned as the initial sellers views.
At the end of the day it is very hard to control, but quite frankly is unnecessary IMO, as i am sure the "common" culprits do not pick up their local paper, and ring round all the advertisers of a product they know about, and tell them it is overpriced.
