LOL, if only it was that easy, now instead of the "Steam gunnery" I have practiced for 17 years, I now have had to learn techniques for shooting with:
a) Full systems, > When all computers & kit are working.
b) Rev 1> when some systems have failed.
c) Rev 2> when all computers Etc. have failed, (Steam gunnery).
Each have their own procedures, all of them are 'intricate'.
Still, good to practice on the "Big Playstation"
(and get paid for it).
Mike.

I'd agree with Mike, the chances of anyone being "conscripted" are so utterly remote as to be non-existent.
As has been said above, nobody in the military wants to go and fight especially in somewhere like Afghanistan however they may have no choice. As regards calling up the reserves the chances of that are also fairly remote (at the moment...) We aren't facing a Gulf War scenario here and there is no defined enemy per se nor are there front lines or enemy airfields to attack. The US had over 1000 aircraft deployed on Op Desert Storm and we had the vast bulk of our air force out on Granby. This time the round the yanks have sent about 100 jets, which in US terms is naff all. If a shooting war kicks off then there may well be a mobilization of specialist TA units (Int, photo recce etc) but that would probably be about it. Conscription of the nation's Subaru drivers would not take place
PS. you don’t want to be RAF groundcrew – they work far too hard! May I suggest Hercules aircrew? All wars spent dropping off stuff in theatre then flying as fast as you can back to Cyprus for another kebab and Keo

Unfortuanatly, although we have the best troops in the world, our "leaders" are made up of Ruperts and Henrys.
Private schools, daddies got a pile in the country, another G&T old chap, chocks away!

A bit like Winston Churchill then?
As for the original question? I can't imagine wanting to join the military under any circumstances.
