This thread reminds me of when, about 6 years ago I was cycling home from school along a long straight 60mph limit road. I heard something very potent changing down through the gears and slowing behind me. A yellow Ferrari 355 crawled past at 45-50mph and then double declutched down a few gears (I think for the aural effect) as he passed, before flooring it back to 120+. The bloke driving it was 75-80 years old. Easy. Grey hair and beard - the whole job lot.

So there is more to look forward to than a bungalow, battered Ford Escort and a pension.

dave_gt - this thread reminds me of when I was cycling home from school 36 years ago on my Moulton deluxe - no, hang on a minute - the memory has gone - never mind, fancy a cup of tea...

Cool

My wife has accused me of going thro' the mid life crisis, when I bought my 1st scooby last March. I'm now a year older and feel a year younger as a result of the purchase, she's beginning to warm to the Scoob, but still tries to brake in the passenger seat as well as giving me her version of pace notes. I'll never see 50 again but who cares there is life after 40!!!!!!!!!!!

How do people cope with those baseball caps on backwards ? I've found that every time I need to look up into the rear-view mirror suddendly it falls off. Really hurts my back stretching down to pick it up too.

Ok, Ok, Ok, Ok, I can hear the calls and smell the Ovaltine and digestives ..........................

You ALL know that I am the oldest, baddest Daddy of the BBS

Looking at a BMW X5 now - did you know? it retains 76% of its value after 3 years???????????? So, why waste £10,000 over 3 years on, say, a Honda CR-V when you can lose EXACTLY the same on a BMW X5???? I know its a BMW and I HATE everything about them, BUT you cannot ignore residuals like that!!

OK so PSlewis is the oldest so far known to science.
At 56 where do I stand, or slump, in the hierarchy?
Good word that, and I think I even spelled right

IMHO, no one's ever too old to appreciate or enjoy a good car if they're of the mind and body to get out and do the biz...

Spin Doctor until March when I pick up my portfolio as a Junior Minister...it comes to us all.

Still love all the music of my youth as well as the Nu stuff. Rush, Motorhead, Nickelback, Ugly Kid Joe, Zep, ACDC et al metal trying to drown out my turbo wagon.

Scoobs rock. Rock err...rocks. Is there a headbangers' forum??

Updated the above. I'm with you Gina - let's have a headbanger's forum for those who remember when music wasn't all boy bands and looney tunes

Got my first Scoob at the age of 40, a Turbo Wagon, and now have a STi7 to keep me a young 42. At my age driving it is the only way I get admiring? looks these days!

Why do I need more bhp the older I get?

I am 47, and am finding the Imp somewhat limp wristed, and am thinking of something a bit more extreme.

Any suggestions? A Skyline springs to mind as an obvious choice.
Or a modified Lotus (like Tut's).
