I like this thread.

One of my all time hates is "Best endevours" Makes my blood boil. Basically means, no we don't have to do it / or not contracted to do it. But you WILL do it anyway or here is your P45.

Any my other is "Issues" instead of Problems.

Currently at work we have sad abbreviations, SOFTI - I can't remeber as I don't have to do the reports.. BUGS - Again, I forget, I'm not involved and the final, BITSO's - Business Information.......(forgotten)....Officers.

Engage - but not the Jean-Luc way of saying it. Qouting from a presentation sent to me this very morning "difficulty in engaging the other sections with this proposal."

Z instead of S
Actually, that's the Oxford English Dictionary's preferred spelling for most of the -ize words. Fowler said that the only reason people use -ise is so that they don't have to remember which are -ise and which are -ize (e.g. comprise, advise, etc.)

Thumbs up

Great thread!

I hate when Yanks say "burglarized" instead of "burgled".

Other ones that make me cringe:

- This needs fleshing out
- Let's build a strawman
- We've got some skin in the game
- Let's whiteboard this one
- Imagineering
- We're on the same page
- We're in the ballpark
- Step up to the plate
- Awesome
- Fab
- Think it was said earlier but anybody who prefixes a sentence with "To be honest...." is probably lying
- Anybody who talks like Ned Flanders

Cheers
Kav

OK Carl I recognize your point, maybe I should have put

Z when it should be S

and I was not refering to "incentivization" as a specific, I just think it is a horrible americanized pseudo word.

How about another pet hate of mine,

very unique - something is or it is not.

"i'll pencil you in"
"i will try" - either do it or don't! As yoda would say "do or do not, there is no try"
