You could get yourself a well sorted Cosworth YB engine for that cash with some proper power then find an old saff dump it in and then go and have some serious **** out fun without having to worry about getting dinks or dents in the supermarket car park. Revel in the fact that your rusty old shed that every one sneers at will blow away just about everything else on the road this only adds to the fun. The look on Mr M5'S face as he is left for dead by a sierra is priceless and worth the cash alone. Nobody will even want to nick it as long as you dont have a cosworth badge on the back which is another added bonus. If you stack the car your not really going to care as you can the find another shed to bung your motor in

13-17K eh? Need more comfort and space eh? Won't be Scooby performance yet but for that kind of money you could have a new or newish V6 Rover 75 or even an MG ZT (sporting version of the R75) is possible in that cost range. Try both, demonstrations cost nothing and you might just be surprised and enjoy the experience. Neither will cost an arm or leg for servicing and running costs. Then, when your next "good year" comes along, you maybe in a better position and afford the V8 MG ZT which should be available by then .... Rear wheel drive and options up to around 400bhp to play with ..... and you'll be providing more secure employment to some fellow Brits .....

Hi John,

Nothing against Rovers but they ain't my bag! My ex had a BRM that I helped her choose, but don't really fancy a Rover myself!

Cheers tho!

I thought of an M5 but its a bit on the big side for me

If I got a Skyline I think it would have to be an R34, and they are still over 30k

you wouldnt be able to get a 99 but for £17k you would be able to pick up a TVR CERBERA and has the fastest production car ever made according to clarksons tests and they look and sound the dogs danglies

Jeff - we have been here b4 haven't we Just trying to cover as many bases as possible, but it keeps coming back to the S4

Paul - Hi mate, I once wanted an M3 but sorta gone off them, servicing is more expensive than the S4, insurance is worse, and no-one would let me out of junctions

Steve - If you're referring to a 99 S4, have a look on Autotrader mate, theres quite a few going for that money! 99T's are coming out around 16-17 99V's around 17-18, 00V's around 18-20. TVR is no good as its gotta be a commuter car

Guess its the S4 then , nothing else really around that does what I want and an S4 does, other than an M3, but we've covered that one

Cheers all

RX7 - lovely but cost a bomb to run Not an ideal commuting car really.

S2000 - was seriously tempted by this, but decided not tuneable enough and not sure I want a 2 seater.
