Best I can manage - 3:14:39
I must have been running down the order from Simon and getting held up in his ruts

I was right up Simon's chuff for most of the stage, but I was held up in his dust, honest.
I would have been at least10 secs quicker than him

Wonder how much lower the times will get...this was fairly flat out, I could shave a few tenths off it, but not much.
What's wrong Blubs?
Cheers

3:06.19 - Scooby, messed with most settings, perfect run (in my eyes), manual, spent nearly all day (instead of doing DIY).
I'm not playing anymore, I've had enough of this stage, my thumbs hurt
Cheers

In my capacity as blubs new secretary (Geezer refused to wear the fishnets and stilletos) I have to report a time of 3:02:25 in the scoob.
I witnessed this astounding event shortly after setting a similar time, although mine was measured in hours.

Hi All,
I'm at work now so can make a comment!!
I could not get below 3:11 at first.
Then I tried manual gears and after three runs I had taken six seconds of that time.
Then it was just a case of tidying it up and learning the stage. You can change gear very early in manual and stop the wheelspinning. I also find it much easier to balance the car in a slide and using the gears to brake means much more controllable entry into corners.
Anyone who is not already using manual should give it a go. Once you get over the initial awkward feeling it is so much better.
Cheers for the post Highwayman,
blubs

Got to agree with Blubs here, I was averaging around 3:11 in auto, but knocked off loads of time using manual gears. It is the only way to do this stage really quickly I feel.

After speaking to blubs this morning, he informs me that his run of 03:02:25 included a trip into the trees and ran wide at the downhill hairpin, so be afraid, be very afraid, this man is going to break 3 minutes!!!

Simon,
I use the 'chase-car' type view. It's the one where you are directly behind the car.
When I saw your times yesterday I couldn't believe how quick they were and I initially thought it was because you were using 'drivers eye' view and you could be more accurate.
After a long sulk I went home and gave it a try and it was terrible. The whole car dynamics felt false and I gave up after a few runs through the stage.
I then tried my normal view with manual gears and that's it. I just try to be mega smooth and avoid too much oversteer.

Hi Blubs
I can't get on with the outside views in driving games for some reason. But it does afford you much better visability, but like you... when trying the outside views in the past I've found it hard to make it round the stage let alone put in a decent time.
The physics are actually very good. There are obviously some flaws (some big ones) but the general feel is very authentic IMHO.
The main things that divorce the game from reality are to do with environmental issue (in a round about way)...
For instance. Almost all forest tracks are more convex than the ones in the game. This doesn't sound like a big deal, but... in reality you can find at least a second on some single bends by ditch hooking, or just riding the inside edge of the convex track so you are effectively "wall-of-death"ing the bend! (lol)
blubs
It would be interesting to know what setup you are running (or is that not allowed?)
To be honest, I don't think it will make much of a difference to me, I really don't think I could knock more than a second off the time I posted above somewhere. lol
all the best

SDB, (LOL)
Yeah, I can see your point about convex tracks. I think the game designers have to draw the line between accuracy and 'fun to play' factors.
Grand Prix Legends is a good example of this. It's a fantastic game but is only popular with purists like us because it is so real and has a very steep learning curve.
Set up................... ............oh, ok then;
If you start with the pointer on the settings as defaulted to the middle then 'click' them as follows;
Gearing - 1 click to 'short'
Suspension - 2 clicks to 'soft'
Tyres - Dry gravel
Brake Biased - 3 clicks to 'rear'
Brake Strength - Leave in the middle
I don't touch the steering as I like it as it is.
If you are using manual gears you'll notice the cars seem to be geared differently. The Subaru seems to be good on this stage.
It really is then a case of being very smooth and boring. It's not really a stage where you can take big chances.

Believe me blubs, watching you kick mine and Strakers ***** around the stages for the past 4 month is very boring. I think that our style of driving is much more pleasing to the eye

Ok, here's an even more boring time;
3:01.64 (Focus)
Only had enough time for a couple of goes last night.
SDB,
Forgot to mention power ratio - 2clicks to the rear.
Geezer,
.......do you mean pleasing to Reginald Molehusband's eye?
J,
Does this mean you concede then ?

Yeah, can't get below 3.05...I guess my scandinavian driving style won't suit yer ****ty little UK gravel schmavel roads.
But...I do think my driving must be more amusing to watch than yours B. :P BIG Ari Vatanen style scandinavian flicks.
Yeah, I can't be arsed to do that SS anymore, played it until I started seeing double yesterday.
I feel the need for speed, you just dare to choose another slip 'n' slide ss again...
Cheers

J, LOL,
You'll definately be the speccies fave if you are doing Scandinavian flicks.
Must admit that a week playing the same stage gets a bit tiresome.
Why don't you pick the next one then.....or are there any other volunteers out there ?
I wouldn't want to be accused of picking my favorite stages now would I?

How about Italy SS8? It is the most miserable stage in the game. It's narrow and extremely twisty, its only saving grace is that it is extremely short.
Failing that, one of the Kenya ones.

I don't really mind which one we have. I'll let you guys argue it out
Needless to say I was pretty hopeless at the first Italy stage where J reigned supreme.
Why don't we vote !
Whichever stage has the most single post votes per person before 4pm today is the one!
Whaddya think. Democracy rules.

Blubs,
On the basis that nobody has voted for anything may I suggest the night stage in Finland SS8 I think but I am open to correction on this.
Secondly I propose we award the best time on this Finnish stage to Blubs....this will save space on the Sccobynet server from the innevitable messages of rediculously quick times that I cannot get near
