One of my mates works in a top class jewllers, he knows his watches inside out and can spot even a good fake a mile away - he tells me that he regularly has to tell customers "well you do no its a fake" to which many are stunned and have paid good money for. Some of the fake watches really are quite good.

the mechanism makes a ting ting ting ting about 5 or 6 times a second
It was on my bedside cabinet and in my ear that was on the pillow, i could hear what was like an ultrasonic ringing...turned out to be the watch!
Telboy. For a wind-up watch that doesn't need wound up, i think the timekeeping is not too shabby.
Saying that, my brother and I bought ours at the same time, same models and mine seems to keep better time than his. He doesn't take his off though and i've been told they run slightly fast when worn and and calibrated to run slightly slow when taken off and placed on their LHS.

My ex used to tell me that you could always tell the size of a blokes ***** by his watch.
Those with the fake Rolex had nothing to prove.
Must be true, because I believe Ron Jeremey wears a Timex :-)

If memory serves, Big Ron wasn't/isn't that large, just knew how to use it
Not that I've studied these things in depth!
Back on topic, I've just bought a watch on E-Bay, am waiting with baited breath to find out if it's spurious. Not a Rolex though.
Dave
P.S. He probably goes for the Timex due to it being wipe clean and it doesn't matter if he looses it in the course of his chosen career

Keep it real
Quality always shines through.
p.s just been told that for certain models of Rolex there is a 12 month waiting list and it'll cost £180 to service mine and be away for upto 10 weeks

Have a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Explorer II which I bought from new and is now 5 years old..... In the 5 years I have scratced it , bump it dropped it and been to many places a watch shouldn't go ... And it still works..........
Yes the watch doesn't keep exact time, loses about 1 - 2 mins a month...
Yes it does need to be serviced every 5 years (£150 - £300). When it came back it looked like a new watch.. I still don't know how they get those scratches out on the bracelet.
I've also just come back from Thailand were I picked up a copy of my watch.. its easy to tell the difference but for £4 I wouldn't expect any different..

One way to be sure of a genuine watches to buy Ltd editions, each one individualy numbered three times (movement, case and ltd edition number)These no's can then be checked against the factory records from your local retailer, it takes a week or so and costs £20.

Snap!
I've got a Sea Dweller too, fabulous watch, and has been absolutely bullet-proof. I am very hard on things like watches, cars etc. - took me less than a year to wreck a Breitling Colt Superocean: bezel, bracelet, crown, all went. Sold it to a mate for a song.
