Just to balance the argument a bit, I must say I do not recognise these harsh, arrogant and unreasonable coppers that keep being described on this forum. Clearly I am not going against anyone's clear experience of these things, but it does make me wonder if it is the initially expressed resentment or annoyance of the person being stopped/questioned that triggers it?

You get much further in this world with manners and diplomacy. If you tell a chef that his food is rubbish and you want something else, he will spit in that something else before giving it to you. If you word the problem tactfully you might get the best meal in the house free as an apology. Same is true of coppers/all human beings and their interaction.

I got stopped for chucking the Scoob sideways in central bloody London recently (a silly second, but still safe ). The 6 cops and me parted 15 mins later with a smile and no summons!

I hope I'm not being naive but I think that if you keep yer nose fairly clean, you wont have to worry... Just my 37 years of experience worth there (but still a steady stream of penalty points that come and go...)

Sorry but if some **** with a fridge door for a spoiler and a gas main for an exhaust is revving his car up outside my house, I'll go outside and tell him to f*ck off. The law became necessary because of the anti-social pillocks out there who think they have a right to disturb other whenever they feel like it! Rant over.

That is not true. If you are being stitched up, get a good lawyer and dont take any crap from the legal system. If you dont fight an unjust prosecution you will never change anything.

You should always be civil to a police officer when they question you. That does not mean they will return the compliment, be it to your face or later when sat in their office back at the station. You still have to play the game and do your best to be straightforward and easy to deal with, otherwise you are asking for it.

As to this particular law, it stinks.

There's no way in hell they are going to catch you.

Some officers ruin the rep for others. Take for instance this morning (not an example, the truth) On my way to work at 6am I pull out of a petrol station behind a marked up 306 with one officer in it. He stared as he went passed so I kept a few car length's distance, so he slows to 20mph in a 40 limit. The only reason I can see is he was hoping I'd over take and he could then pull me. The roads were dry and empty (apart from the que of traffic sat on my ****) so why play silly buggers.
So if I had overtaken him he could have pulled me and impounded my car for whatever reason.

So you get the blue lights do you risk loosing thousands of pounds in court costs, or do you not bother to stop and when the police contact you you deny all knowledge of failing to stop.

There are lots of Jelous people out there with the power to do just that, I know cus I took one to court last year. The end result I was bound over to keep the peace, because they couldn't decide who was lying. It still cost a grand for a barister to do it.

 

You wanna run the risk.........? your decision.

Put it this way. I'm good with faces. Even better with registrations (even if I only get a glimpse) Also - with the advent of video cars, then go for it. I'm sure you'll enjoy the adrenaline rush.

 

just realised - that last comment of mine was aimed at the "they'll not catch you" statement.

As for the random seizing of motor vehicles.... you honestly think we've nothing better to do than seize the car of someone that overtakes us??

For god's sake - please grant at least some of us with some common sense!!! jeez.

I'm sorry but yes there are a lot who will do this, A jelous office with too much power. I know, I've been on the recieving end on many occations. I also know that there are a lot of good honest officers aswell that would not do this. But at the end of the day you all now have the power to do this and it's scary. Either way if I don't stop It'll still cost me the same in court but at least the car won't be ragged around by someone else.

this is heading for a legal black hole, no doubt. i personaly think that the ambiguity surrounding this sort of legislation leaves the motorist in limbo.


what milly says is that it is unlikely that coppers will start taking cars *****-nilly - however there is still the OPTION and that is the worry.

"c)The officer believes that a warning has been given by another officer" very grey - copper could just get a mate to back him up later, if the warning just needs to be verbal.

i mean you won't get your hand chopped off in saudi arabia if you don't steal. but you can guarentee that there are a few, poor one handed people walking around over there.

the sort of abuse that could arise from this, is beyond justification of such laws.

i have zero faith in this law being used correctly and i think that it is a clear cut attack on the motorist yet again. they will not stop until they have us all on the wonderfully efficient public transport system this fantastic country has to offer (we must be the envy of the world).
