Jon, nice choice, a lot less common than TAGs and a lot less pretencious than a Rolex.

I Love this BB, computer nerds who drive cartoon cars and love expensive watches, I never knew so many like minded people existed.

AndrewC....(Breitling Chronomat2 and Old Navitimer)

PS. I noticed no one has mentioned the servicing costs, I can only speak for Breitling Auto-Chronographs which need servicing about every 3 years, it's a back to Switzerland job, about £180 a time, I also had a bezel spring go on the Chronomat, but this was replaced free of charge even though the watch was out of warranty.

PPS. As another topic I think we should discuss the relative timekeeping abilities of the various watches mentioned here, I have a theory that the more you spend the more often you will have to set the time!

Does that mean that your girlfriend/wife doesn't make it into the top 10?

very very happy with my
ROLEX SeaDweller (4000ft job!!)
saved up 4 it so i got it for my 17th birthday (9 years ago now, it was second hand,2years old)

also have Rolex Cosmograph/Daytona in full stainless steel (the one everyone wants)
at the time there was a 18month waiting list!!! i had to wait 20months!!!!! but in that time they offered me a 'black face' one but i turned it down to wait for the 'white face' one that i wanted!! If i've waited that long for it a few more months was not going to be a problem, only tried it on twice in the 5 years i've had it, it locked away safe!!!!!! Very good investment, The cosmograph has gone upto over £3k now from the £2.5K i got it for! and as the waiting list has also gone up, the private sale value has also gone sky high, Saw one in E&M a couple of years ago, boxed/papers etc, £5K.

worth every penny.

Very rare and expensive considering there isn't a rolex movement in your daytona. Rolex haven't made many models that don't have their own movement in them. at the time they couldn't build one as accurate as they wanted, so they used someone elses inards! seiko? could be wrong on the make, but check with any roly dealer if you doubt me.

The versions of the daytona that are now coming out within the last few months are the first with a rolex movement in them.

Mick
nothin tacky about Cosmo unless it's solid gold!!!!!! LOL they look better now they have the centre links shinnyer than the outer, been like that since i had mine.
Any of the Rolex range can look OTT in solid gold, don't you think?

day/date models are the one people copy, but i saw a near as you can get 'without a keen eye on it' Stainless steel Explorer II in Majorca this year, look so real!!!! on Alcudia open air market.!!

Bi-metal GMT II or SeaMarina look good with that lovely blue dial face

Dad had Bi-metal 'jub. braclet' with the Bronze/browny face and that looks the Dogs B...

The Rolex Chronograph looks a bit tacky to me. My boss has one.

Apparently the difference to the real ones is that they have screw heads in the rivets that hold the strap together - You can see it if you look VERY closely

Fosters, its the fact they don't have Rolex innards that makes the older ones so collectable!

Movement from 1961 to ??? was Valjoux 13 lignes movement, modified by Rolex and known as R72. 1988 onwards was Zenith self winding perpetual.

AFAIK Rolex internals in Cosmographs since the new watch was launched at the Basel 2000 show.

One of the best off topic threads for ages, John, bring it to Dono on the 12th I want to touch it.

I don't like jewellery, (rings, chains, bracelets Etc) myself but love to see a nice watch.

I had a Tag SEL until I lost it somehow This has sparked my interest again <I>(Cheers everyone, I feel another big bill coming my way)</I>

Had a look on the linked sites in this thread and fave at the moment looks like the Omega Seamaster Chrono Diver (mid size).

Or the alternative colour.

Anyone pointers to an official dealer abroad who does the best prices <I>(direct mail details to me if poss)</I>, would be gratefully appreciated, wouldn't consider buying something like this in 'rip off Britain'.

Mike.

Mike,

I tried this watch on the other day, IT IS THE DOGS !!!

It took me half an hour (with the wife naggin' me all the time) to decide if I wanted it or the blue face chronometer (in Titanium, same bracelet).

As you will see from my earlier post in this thread, I went for the other one.

AWD

Probably a Submariner Date - I've found a place that can get me one new, with no delay.

Alternatively, an Explorer II.

Just fancy a change - had the Cosmograph for 13 years!

Well, the deal is done (almost!)

Cosmograph gets sold next week and I've got a choice of Explorer II (white dial) or Submariner Date in part ex.

Decisions decisions

I know its down to what feels better, but any comments from those of you who've had either (or even both ) re living with them on a day to day basis?

Comments welcome

Cheers

i've had a white and black faced explorer II. black is by far better.

Go for the submariner date. Ive got one in Rolesor with a blue face. I thought it was a bit over the top at first but I've grown to really like it!

I even prefer it to the Brietling Colt Ocean in black which was my first choice. (both at Chiang Mai - street market)
