i would think to get an 8:00 lap in i would need more power and some sticky tyres. Give me 350BHP and a set of road legal slicks and i'll do it no problem in my RA. Any faster than that will be taking some big risks i would think, but you just dont know, it's surprising how much speed you can gain over time.

how apropriate, my 6000th post is about the ring.
If i was driving my westie, i would be quicker than Ulf in his GT3 now i would think, that car was so quick, my speed was limited to track knowledge by a big amount back then.

I know a bit about driving at the ring in the snow. I lost the back end of the scoob.
I was not going very fast, but it is scary even in the dry!!

Saying that John, I would probably be a bit better now that I have done a few more track days in the 944, I may be a bit less scared. Bedford and Donington scared me the first few times round!!!

nope, The F1 cars dont use the old nurburgring track we are talking about, they use the new GP track that is built next to it. They stopped racing on the northern loop when Nicki Lauda had his crash back in 1976.
The track we use is 13.5 miles long!

It's all about what you are used to Clare. It's normal for me to be driving on track at those sorts of speeds, it's quite alien for most people. You just have to build your knowledge up, the smart people do this at a steady rate, the nutters try and take on experienced people to early and usually end up in a right mess.

John,
Sorry I didn't realise there was a meet at the ring as I haven't been on Scoobynet that long.
But certainly sounds and interesting outing.
Don't think I'll bother going for sub 9, just happy to have a nice steady blast round for the experience. I want my Scooby left in one piece.
I know a few Cossie boys. Can they come to ?
Steve

Youre confusing the GP short circuit with the full 13 and a bit odd mile old GP track I think. See JF's Video thread below to see the map.
Has anyone here ever done the IOM TT track at a resonable speed?

sure, everyone is welcome. Last year we had martin hadland bring his monster Cossies with us, Mike Rainbird in his too. It's as much a social thing as it is a driving weekend. Some of us go much more often, but we normally go via an organised trip on scoobynet twice a year, it's a lot of fun.
And dont aim for a time, just drive it, under 10 minutes isnt slow, if you go with the atitude of just driving a blind country road you will enjoy it.

Razor, look at the times in Green, they reflect the track we drive a little more.

The TT course is awesome, i would love to have a few runs at that, in a car of course! I have a 2nd cousin who races in the TT every year.
I just worked out my average speed at the ring to be 97MPH, that's much higher than any other circuit i drive, my average speed at dono is around 88MPH for example. Not bad for a standard engined road legal car on normal road tyres.

Sounds to me like you'd enjoy the Ring! Standby for John's video on how to do it coming out in Jan - should make you sub 9's 'out of the box' Seriously though, it's great fun and pretty safe IF you take John's advice and build up your speed slowly.
I've gained quite a bit more experience since my last visit to the Ring, and am looking forward to apply that there next time, cos God knows you need it !

Definatly a change of underwear required. If you want to see a very fast lap get the Video 956 In-Car were Derek Bell does a 6:40 lap in a Porsche 956. Made me ill just watching it !!!!!!!!!!
