To get the focals to fit there doesn't need to be any fiddling with the window mechanism - just a spacer. It's very tight (too much spacer & the speaker touches the door card, too little & the window hits it!) but it's possible.
Don't worry too much about the window hitting it anyway - if you look at the mechanism, it stops going down because there's a metal bar in the way. The speaker magnet will do much the same thing - only a little higher up! If you do this, though, make sure that the speaker is mounted very solidly or the window mechanism will try twisting it off the mounts every time it hits it!

it would seem stupid to get some new ones as the Focals I have were £350! they are from my old car and they do sound amazing. Ive tried making some spacers and the speakers hit the door cards, il have to make some new spacers and try again!

Im busy fitting the stereo in this week while im off so il have another go

FYI

The new/currnet focal polykevlar comes with a spacer about 1cm on each mounting hole on the outer rim. Whether this is just to protect it during transit, or it is there for mounting purposes, i would have thought this to be a reasonable amount of room to leave for the speaker excursion.

Dont think 1cm is enough.. Think my spacer was about 2 cms.. ish

If you already have the Focals you might as well get them fitted..they are not that difficult to sort... only question would be were yo should fit the tweeter.. there are many differing opinions on this. Some do it close to the main speaker.. you can then do a door build if you want... ala Cheltenham Car audio.. or you put the tweeters higher up or even get special builts on the dash area

Every place I speak to has differing opinions on which place is best. I personally think were the original tweeters were is best but this is too small an area?

One thing I do notice with the Focals is that they tend to rattle the car to bits with a lot of areas of the car resonating and vibrating awfully at certain frequencies, depsite throwing in tonnes of dynamat.. somethng I didnt get with the Dyn MK240's (£399 retail

Polykevlar focal decent rms - £299 retail, but you sould be able to pick them up for around £200 if you shop around....

Dont be a mug and pay full price for them like I did!....

Unhappy

If anyone has any detailed instructions on how to get these speakers in id be very grateful!! been tring for days, made lots of spacers of different sizes and there is No way they will fit, 18mm MDF spacer and the door card wont go on, tried other thicknesses and the windows wont go down.. the speakers are the 165KX's think they are about 82mm mounting depth. Im going to end up buying some Infinity Kappa 65.5cs i think..

done the boot install and it all looks nice, shame my cd changer doesnt seem to wana play! ive also now noticed what people mean, put the bass unit on to check everything worked and the car does rattle a bit! even tho plenty of dynamat.

anyway any help of any sort much appriciated, apart from these infities what other speakers (that will go in!) are any good?

cheers

Leon

you could od what i did and get the smaller 135. they are still the same depth, but with about a 1cm spacer I had no problem in mounting them and with plenty of excursion room. The problem I had was the part where the grill slopes in - that was either touching or just too close to the rubber.

The 135s sound great - still plenty of depth and decent punch. They're the square basket ones.

cheers
