Be interesting to see how it fiars agianst a classic, there look like there could be a big Santa Pod shootout next year so if any run we may see some figures. I would love to head to head with one RA versus FRS. 195bhp@wheels AWD (1200kgs) against 212bhp@fly FWD should be a close run thing.

The Quaiffe diff is too much for an everyday car on everyday roads so for me It would have to be the ugly Scooby.

They didn't know that as they were just a chuffing audience.

A guy did have a 555 jacket on so it was an even crowd

LOL at the lot of you. Sour grapes or what.
Why not trade in your 02 WRX and get an RS you couls probably afford a wheel nut with the money you get back for your nearly new scoob

I think the Focus RS is an awesome car, but I don't like it for what it stands for! ESSEX BOYZ R US!!!!

Give me a more 'grown up' STi or Evo VII anyday!!

I think I'd even rather drive a Beemer, and thats saying something!

Let's be honest here, your typical Essex boy isn't going to buy a Focus RS for a long time. Get one now and it should be 3-5 years before the kids start to get hold of them.

When I went to the test drive in Gaydon, Ford said the average age group was around 28-30. There was only one kid there (22) who had been quoted around £4.5k in insurance (and it's only group bloody 16!) so they are the exception to the rule.

The same will apply to the new shape Impreza. Most of the w**kers that buy cars to drive like t**sers don't even know what the bug eye version is yet...

People keep forgetting with 20K you can have a FRS or a full UK spec WRX with PPP kit fitted (250bhp). If you go to Europe you can have a WRX for 15-16K as there are no deals on FRS that 4-5K cheaper. 4-5Ks worth of mods would put the WRX in a different league IMHO.

You could normally expect to get a very good discount on a Ford but not when it's limited and virtually sold out for the next 12 months.

You can get ST170's and ST220's cheap on import (and obviously a ST220 ex-demo is probably cheaper still).

I've always liked the Focus, so for me there is no contest. I am not one of the people trying to say it's the fastest thing on the planet, so it doesn't bother me that a STi or P1 is faster. An Evo is faster still...

Jon I think thats the point, you wanted that particular car for its performance and limited edition appeal, which I can understand. A lot of Subaru owners wont buy anything other than special editions.

I suppose the scoob just happens to be roughly the same price and appeals to the same type of buyer with 20K to spend. I am not saying one car is better than the other as its seems that it depends what you want from the car and whether or not you want to modify it or not.

I'd NEVER buy a new car unless there was some chance it may not depreciate rapidly. I've taken the gamble (which it clearly is) that the Focus RS will hold its value quite well, like my Escort Cosworth and RS2000 4x4 did before (although I got both of these ex-demo).

It makes little sense buying a bread and butter car brand new unless you've got oodles of money and can afford the loss within a few seconds of driving it away.

I don't know why the limited edition Subarus have been hit so badly but would expect the WRX to lose value purely because of the numbers produced.

Question

Correct me if I'm wrong (flame suit on) but....

wasn't the theme of the topic on Driven to show the top WRC models with their nearest matching road going counter parts?

Yes, choose the RS Focus its the top Focus model. Show the GTi 206, same again, top 206 model.

So why show the entry level Impreza Turbo when surely the nearest spec WRC model is the STi??

Andy.

Good point. I guess they would have had the STi if they could have got one..

With the programme being axed a month before they filmed the last couple of shows, I guess they found it hard to get anything!

I know it's silly but I think the Impreza may have had a few more fans if they got one in a nicer colour too. People are funny like that.

Oh - and the girl who said the 206 was fantastic or whatever didn't go out in the other cars. So she didn't have anything to compare it with. I went out in the 206 and it was quite fast but, well, that's about it! The woman driving us didn't like it either as it didn't take the bends quick or handle very well...

Apparently. It didn't do very well, so Channel 4 suspended it for a while until they could figure out what to do with it.

This is why it returned after a "break" with a few one hour specials. Channel 4 say it's had its day and I think that means it's all over.

Maybe the 1 hour shows will have helped though as they were a little more interesting (more going on) than before.
