CTR 0-60 = 6.8
Prelude 2.2vtec (183bhp) 7.1 as standard... and mine cretainly wasn't

So I would say the difference is..........

Ah right, 0-60, the definative proof of a car's performance. Sorry you've got me there

Know what you mean MooseRacer . The 0-60's aren't worth **** but you had me cornered and I was clutching at straws, so I had to dig real deep

Out the box I'd probably have the CTR over a new WRX. At the time of buying my MY99 I did toy with the idea of a nearly new CTR that I test drove. The CTR is very quick for a hatch and whilst I know all the 172/cup owners will get up in arms about this it is noticeably quicker than the renault and would have humped the VTS.

I've been dissapointed with the scooby up till now and wondered if I'd made the wrong choice. I've fettled with the power a bit and now could see of a CTR in the straight fairly comfortably. However, the 'out the box' handling always seemed lacking in the Impreza. Its great on c and some b-class roads but even the VTS would match/beat it on an a and some b-class roads with open sweeping bends. However, I got the bumpsteer and geometry done and the scooby is transformed! Do not buy a scooby unless you intend to get this done IMO. Now I'd say that driver for driver my car would plaster a CTR in nearly all possible tests......except fuel economy

The bottom line is your on to a good thing as they are both very good cars IMO.

Oh, and whilst the CTR sounded ok, it can't/won't touch the burble from a decatted scooby

Zax, you live in somewhere very snowy and you're asking if a 4WD car is worth the extra?

Everyone here is forgetting that the civic looks
<jez clarkson mode /on> GAY! <jez clarkson mode/off>

A valid point But we have an enormous 4x4 for those deep snow moments... And believe it or not the majority of folks here survive quite easily using 2wd.

I just want to replace the scoob with something fun. Would be fine with a new one, but unfortunately a new impreza is just too much money at present.

UK CTR's are available for under 15k from drivethedeal.co.uk

If you can't afford a new scooby then it would make an admirable 2nd choice, although if money is an issue then something like a Clio Cup might fit the bill too.

I had a CTR surprise me the other day in my MY99 wagon (with Prodrive BB ... not that it makes a huge difference)

On the A27 west bound at Shoreham, there's a nice left hand sweeping slip road that drops and goes under the A27. Had the Mrs in the car so I was not hammering it around the corner and it was wet.

Anyway ... took to the bend at about 50mph (which I felt was fast enough for the conditions) looked in the mirror and this CTR was up my chuff! He stuck with me like glue.

On the next straight I gave it a bit of 'right foot action' and he just stayed with me. I wouldn't say he was catching me, but I was not pulling away either.

I know in a staright line to 60 it probably comes down to driver ability ??? , or in a high powered Scoob you'd kill a CTR, but I was well impressed the CTR stuck to the bend ... and in the wet too !!!

Posted on behalf of my CTR owning bud, who I pointed at this thread: -

To be fair I think yer newsgroup seem to be a well screwed together bunch and haven't actually slagged the CTR off, like other newsgroups would of, so this just goes to prove no matter what you drive, you can't keep a good motor down.

My opinion, bit unfair to ask as I haven't driven a Scoob, but I love the CTR.

If your blatting don't the motorway you can drop the CTR from 6th to 5th at 95 and this will drop you just under the 6000rpm powerband, then we take off up to 8600rpm then into 6th, catches a lot of cars tailing you unaware, great fun.

The people I know who have Scoobs have always said that you eat tyres, so the comments about the CTR front's is a bit unfair. If you drive it properly you should get some decend mileage out of them, however, I do agree that on incline junctions even the cautious driver will get some spin, no traction control remember!

Handling is great, just do have to be a bit more careful in the wet but I'm sure my "Scoob owner" mate can vouch that it goes round corners!

I have often wondered what it would be like to own a Scoob, 18,000 grand is cheap now for the end of the Bug Run, but I also wonder what I could do to my CTR for the extra 2,500 grand!!! (anyone any ideas?!?) would it then beat the Scoob?

I like the fact that the CTR is sooo flexible, you can drive around at 30mph in 5th gear all day, so easy to live with day to day, like traffic jams, whereas some people have mentioned the Scoob is a bit of a pain round town but great on the twisties.

I still look out for the Scoob, and still hanker after one, happy with my CTR, and that VTEC, for now and that gearstick is a dream to use.

You can only go and drive them both, as mentioned, and thanks to you Scooby owners form being honest and not ripping the hellout of the CTR.

P.S my CTR insurance cost me 856 fully comp, the missus, and business mileage covered, 250 excess, and my mate said he got a stonker deal on his Scoob try www.privilege.com

Cheers

I'm really sorry but there's four things that tick me off on the BBS. Spelling, grammar, capitilisation and poor research!

You can't go from a Scooby straight to a CTR for a bit and then say that the CTR handling is cr8p!

For the first month of CTR ownership I had all kinds of problems getting used to being back in FWD - culminating in a very embarrassing experience in the dry with about 3 gears of wheelspin and getting blown away by a 2.0 Golf GTi lardass.

The problem is that AWD is just sooo forgiving and lets you get away with an awful lot. FWD isnt. FWD will never be as good as AWD in the wet. It's just as much fun though, but in a different way. Go around a corner too fast in the wet with AWD and the rear wheels power you through it. Do the same in FWD and the back end (in the case of the CTR) comes around a bit, nice touch of opposite and it's all tidied up. Thing is that the feedback is so good that eventually you find yourself doing this on purpose with the CTR.

I was also disappointed with the performance of the CTR when I first got it, but again this was because I had 40k miles of that 3k thump in the back that had now disappeared. 20k later in the CTR and I'm totally used to the 5.8k kick of VTEC which is JUST as good (although even I admit that VTEC is nowhere near as aurally pleasing as Boxer!).

So do me a favour. Once you've got 40k experience of Scoobies and around 20k+ with a CTR you can have a qualified opinion. Until then...
