I did used to have some fun with 1.8Ts clearly in various states of tune. Now I have fun with TVRs and 911s If you want to try the modified argument, then at least consider a properly modified Scooby When you have double the power of a lot of the unmodified ones and less weight it isn't much fun anymore. Difficult to find much that can keep up if you modify your car too much. But road racing is not the point

The super chip guy round carlisle has a 130tdi A3 which is running 175 bhp and 300ftlb of torque! ask ian from palmers how long it took him to catch in his sti7 when the diesel went by, in gear excelleration is pretty quick with 300 ftlb in a lightish car!

I'll let you know in 100,000 miles!
I think that the concensus with diesels is that they are built to handle a lot more power than they come with. The Ibiza has the PD130 engine from the rest of the VAG range. VW race Golfs with broadly this engine (the PD150, basically different in terms of turbos and injectors, but not too different internally; perhaps the bearing caps are different(?)) and they chuck out a lot more power.
The 6-speed transmission IS over it's stated capacity by a fair few lb/ft, but I figure that my right foot has ultimte control over the likelihood of things going bang.
I do mostly motorway miles so I'm not generally stressing the engine any more than it would be as standard, it's just nice to have a bit of poke (and to leave folks with 'warm' cars in a cloud of soot whenever I fancy). If I ragged it everywhere then it may be a different story...
