Paul,
I think your right some dealers idea of 4 wheel alignment is to use two pieces of string and some chalk on the floor. LOL

Question

Mike,

Any idea if the ones found in the french Subaru dealers' official catalogue are those ? (they seem to be blue on the pics if this can be of any help).

As far as I understood, they'll fit STi7 & 8... Am I correct ?

STi M8

They will not be the ones in the Subaru France catalogue and the springs for 03MY are different to 02MY.

Ordered mine this morning for pick up on Tuesday. I will probably get them fitted at Powerstation as well.

If someone could post pics up of their STi 7 or 8 when they get the ProDrive springs in I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

I booked mine in at the Subaru dealers but was confused by the service guy who reckoned that the kit included both springs and dampers but I had assumed just springs. Is he confused or is it me? Any idea of the supplier to Prodrive?

Quote from Powerstation as follows for some various bits I have been considering:

1/. Fit my Prodrive springs = £80.00
2/. Supply & fit ALK = £150.00 + £20.00 fitting
3/. Supply & fit uprated rear ARB & bushes = £100.00 + £20.00 fitting
4/. Powerstation geometry = £60.00

All prices Excl. VAT.

My motor is now booked in on 25th April for the above work.

Just for reference.. the STi 7 and 8 use the same front springs but the strut tops are slightly different on the rear of the STi 8 meaning that you need different springs.

My Prodrive springs should be here tomorrow. Was planning to ask Powerstation to fit them and do geometry at the same time. When I was last talking to them they recomended the rear anti roll bar so will probably go with that too.

But whats the ALK and what is it meant to achieve, driving and handling wise?

My other thoughts are to do the things one at a time, springs and geometry first, drive it for a month or so, then the rear anti roll bar, dive it again, so I get better feel for whats done what.

Chelspeed,
The ALK stands for Ant-Lift-Kit. I beleive it lowers rear bushes but not quite sure (sorry).
The white line Anti roll bar is quite good, IIRC, has 3 adjustable setting.

Chelspeed,

If you haven't already done so, I hope you are doing the solid droplinks also. I would recommend the Powerflex ones. I know Powerstation now stock these as well as the Whiteline ones.

They make a massive difference vs. standard OE rubber droplinks.

Cheers

So what are the different effects of fitting uprated droplinks, ALK and ARB?

Lemmy,
I believe it firms up the back end up. Arron Bird the guy to really talk

Sorry not very Techy, so this may be helpful or utter cr4p

I found in the wet and medium speed corners the backend drift was quite predicable and controlable but tended to be a bit wishy washy in same corner in the dry, too much body roll

The OEM Drop links are plastic and the solid replacements stop some of the flexing of the ARB.The adjustable ARB will give less body roll keeping car flatter to road. ATK i think lowers the suspension chassis mounting and thus altering the anglar movement. IIRC IMHP etc

Tony

Flame suit ready but aleast I tried

I will talk to Powerstation and see what they recomend.

Are the solid drop links for the front anti roll bar, the back or both? Or does the new stiffer rear bar come as standard with solid drop links so you just need to uprate the fronts to match?

I did just the rear ARB on my 7 along with droplinks and uprated mounts (don't forget to do these. It's no good stiffening the rear up and not changing the OE flexi mounts ). I also put the ALK on the front which I think is totally worth doing (as it was on my MY00UK) as the harder bushes and relocated pickup points improve steering wheel feel no end.

Lemmie, the rear ARB/bushes/droplinks/mounts etc. just stiffen up the rear end a little but more importantly, the rear seems more consistent and gives you more information and you can lean on it harder with more confidence due to this = more fun/faster cornering

any feedback from people that have had the springs fitted to harshness of ride, especially round town at lowish speed navigating our lovely quality road surfaces in this country ?

ACB555. I was referring to an STi7, not an 8. Was just wondering if anyone has had the springs fitted to see what the ride was like in town over bumps etc..etc...

UKType. Would def be interested to know of your impressions. Also of interest would be what your dealer quoted you for the springs and the fitting. Finding it quite hard to get it out of my lot at the moment....

I would be really interested to hear what the low speed ride is like on the new springs as I think the ride is quite appalling on the original set up. I remember years ago when I had a Lotus Elan with amazing handling qualities and a far more acceptable ride than my STi7, its getting to the point where no one wants to travel in my car as the ride is so firm, surely there must be a compromise between good handling and a decent ride around town where lets face it most of us spend our time.

I hope that everyone doesnt jump down my throat on this one as apart from the ride I love the car to bits, its just that it is spoiled a bit by the harsh crashing ride around time.

Cheers

Ian.
