I nearly did that, but for some reason thought COBOL was more interesting than Fortran

Ray - if you are serious e-mail me, enclosing your CV details and I will forward it.

The job title is Delegated Manufacturing Authority (Electrical/Electronic) - you need to certify weapon electronics, test gear, across a huge site.

Who will you be working for?

The Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) has been central to the defence of the United Kingdom for more than 50 years, providing and maintaining the warheads for the country's nuclear deterrent.

Uniquely among the nuclear powers, AWE covers the whole life-cycle of nuclear warheads, in a single establishment. This includes initial concept and design, through component manufacture and assembly, to in-service support and, finally, decommissioning and disposal.

------------------------------------------------------------

Computing:-

New Supercomputer for AWE

AWE today took delivery of a new massively parallel supercomputer, placing it in the top ten of leading computer installations in the world.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Engineering:-

Science and Technology Introduction & Objectives

" The overall mission of AWE is to provide the UK national capability for a nuclear deterrent on behalf of the Secretary of State for Defence.

The main goals of scientific and technological development at AWE have been to enable the design and production of nuclear warheads which have their performance assured and yet at the same time have the most stringent safeguards against unplanned operation.

Not to sure but do you guys have this backpack that detects nucclear waste (not to sure of the term) and can be taken anywhere in the work.

001,002,003,004,005,006 NO 007 then 008 does this ring a bell

001 is for the person that designed it

I don't recall ever even mentioning your career I was more concerned with the "God" status you seem to like to give yourself.

How many other people do you see coming on here and talking about how many £100k's they earn, or how much they'd get in a redundancy payout?? Can't recall reading too many of your post's that haven't concerned one or the other... Oh yeah, and who can forget your body builder mates? Don't want to get on the wrong side of you! Come on Pete - if you say it enough times it just might come true!!

Do I care what people think of what I do/earn?? Not really. Not everyone needs to lull themselves into a sense of security

this backpack was black and has a arial that comes out the top. it also has a GPS and a senser that is straped on to the leg.
they used 001, 002 etc for the product but not 007 just incase some stupid person saw them with 007 and decide to shoot him.

i guess it wasnt for you guys then

AWE is a dead end(and you have no other option beyond there), you know as well as everyone else is that we'll run out of money for self development of Nuclear ordnance.
This stuff about supercomputers is just bluster and its really just pure academia(Government Uni type Research establishment), any existing upgrade to UK nuclear deterrent will come from the US. The mould of independence in Defence is broken e.g. when we collaborated on Eurofighter or replaced Polaris with Trident......see Apache Helecopters as another example of 'Contracting out' defence.......
I'll only briefly mention the political option, it only takes one 'Liberal' based government to scrap the Nuclear option, your only hope is that the status quo remains in Labour/Conservative government. The risk of a breakup of the UK with Northern Ireland and Scotland being likely to drop out given the vote going the wrong way will bugger it up completely. remember that the SNP are the second party in Scotland, any major swing in voting will mean they are in and independence from Westminster. They have an anti Nuclear weapons policy so you can just close Faslane....So Pete ask yourself, where will YOU be working.....Make mine a large portion of fries my man....

Just as I guessed.
You are a sad old man who has no hobbies or lifestyle. Thats why you are still working at 72 and spend ALL your leisure time on this BBS. I hope to god that I will have been in a comfortable retirement for 15 years by the time I reach your age. Unless of course you are lying about your age which would make you an even sadder git

Not in the top ten for long. Last time I looked it was somewhere around 23rd or something. Amazing how fast the superduperputers are getting nowadays

Yeah, that job sounds dead easy, bang one together for you in my lunch hour, no worries

Cheers

you need to certify weapon electronics, test gear, across a huge site.
I used to do that, worked at most of the nuclear establishments in the UK, both Civil and Military on the electronic test systems, mainly working with Utrasonic and eddy current systems down to component level plus calibration to the required standards. One of my favourite projects was working on the robot that crawls down the reactor core rods and scans the core for cracks. Once you set it up and get it walking down the core you cant touch it again or you die. And then they wonder why nuclear power is expensive.

Pity the technology went so throw away digital, it either works or stick a new board in, it got boring so i left. I saw some interesting things though, probably the stangest feeling was walking around on top of nuclear reactors, it's so quiet yet it could wipe out most of the UK if it went **** up.

Working at AWE is nothing special, i used to go to those places every day. Dont you get sick of the constant bleeps from the radiation detectors? that probably explains why you have strange notions, such as not liking gold wheels, it's enough to send anyone mad.

Honestly, are you really 72? Seems like you are choosing to ignore more and more posts making legitamite points contrary to your assertions.

Come on mate - consider it an amnesty - come clean with no flaming

I didnt work for AWE, i was too highly skilled for that place, they paid me to come on site at extortionate rates to do a job they didnt have the ability/certification to do in-house. So no dead wood being dumped, i changed job when it got too easy/boring.

Dunno what your second comment means? I work on multi terra byte databases for some of the largest turnover UK businesses, it's a bit more mentally challenging than the work i did at places like AWE.
