'Crypt its a nice car but that colour is poser material and a police magnet . Still slower than an RA as well'

As you are comapring a RA, why not against the Evo 6 Extreme

0-60 4.0secs 0-100 10.secs

Like for Like the Evo rules, you know it, Four consective WRC driver wins.

Mitsi has just slowed down in the WRC with the 7, but their dominance can't be denied.

Oh BTW still the Evo 6 won the GRP N WRC, which is of course closer to the Road cars - nuff said.

Silver-bullet,

You forgot to mention that an EVO 6 extreme cost nearly twice as much new as an RA.

I'm on 3rd Scoob punctuated by a 206gti (what was I thinking). Have to say current P1 has settled me down and no plans to change it for a while.

Cool

Oh dear, oh dear!

Rats deserting a sinking ship...

And as for the Mitsi's pisspoor WRC record, well they all pale into insignificance compared to the Daddy.

Lancia Integrale. The Greatest Rally Car of All Time. Nothing else comes close!

Rob16v,

Except of course if you want something reliable, right hand drive, with upholstery that wouldn't scare off children and small animals, and which RECENTLY won the WRC.

Lee - what mods did you do to the 156? (just changed the scooby for a 156 Sportswagon 2.0 Veloce).

I replaced mine with a 1982 Porsche 911 turbo. Loads of plusses - much faster, corners better (in the dry at least), raw driving experience, REAL feel good factor driving it, looks good (hell I even like washing it!!), easy to work on. About the only down side so far is it's heavier on fuel. Time will tell re depreciation and the cost of unexpected bills, but the speed at which Impreza prices are currently dropping is scary.

You mean something as reliable as a modded Scooby.. Youre having a giraffe, my friend. Integrales are Iconic masterpieces, shouldnt even be mention on this forum. They are collected by enthusiasts and looked after accordingly. They are not bought by muppets who feel inclinied to join the masses and end up with a truly ugly car and then make it worse adding a bucket on the end of the exhaust and driving up and down on the 'southend cruise'.

LHD.. yeah, it takes a real master to drive LHD. Better leave to them to those who know what theyre doing.

I'd love to see if the scooby had won IF Lancia had continued developing the integrale after 1994....

'I think technically the greatest rally car of all time is the Mk II Escort'

WTF !!???

Ah, by the way... Scoobies.. Great cars ! Really.
Happy motoring lads.

<<I think technically the greatest rally car of all time is the Mk II Escort>>

Depends whether you're talking about individual race wins or Championship wins. Saab V4s are up there too, surprisingly. But if you want 6 CONSECUTIVE WRC wins (winning EVERY year it was entered), there's only one place to go...

PS I thought it was ME who was living in the past :-)

Richard,

Mine was one of the last 155bhp models mid 2001. The later 2.0l Twin Sparks had a cat in the exhaust manifold which strangles the engine a bit above 5000rpm and the output drops to 150bhp. This engine doesn't respond as well to mods unless you decat the manifold first.

I have the Autodelta carbon fibre intake system fitted and the exhaust is straight through from cat back with stainless back box. Website claims are around 12bhp for this mod but I think a 10bhp claim would be about right. 155+10=165bhp yet to be proven on rollers.

Have a look at Alfaowner Shop for some ideas.

Cheers

From 98MY UK turbo to 99MY honda accord type-r,the honda doesn't give the raw thrills of the scoob but up to now i've not had to be brought home on the back of a low loader,no3 big end on scoob!Cheaper insurance and feels better put together,VTEC is good fun when in the mood, hard work when not,but i knew that before i bought it,not knocking scoobs but one of these could be worth considering if you fancy a change.paul.

Got rid of the pile of ****e P1 and replaced it with a brand new Carbon Black E46 M3 Coupe. Best move I ever made. 0-60 in 4.8 0-100 in 10.8, leaves the P1 for dead.

Well as I just sold my P1 I ought to add to this thread...

Got a TDi Landrover Discovery (for the family)...
And a Westie SEi (for me)...
(Still have the Ibiza Diesel as runaround and Rover convertable for wifey)

Looks like a few people have taken the Westie route, it certainly gives a good adrenaline step up from the Scoby.

They all do better than 30mpg (in some cases better than 60mpg)... and between them they have 360bhp/tonne, 4 wheel drive, convertable, huge towing capacity and 7 seats(!) oh and they all cost less than £6K, so I own them all instead of just borrowing them off the HP company.

Westie is scarey scarey quick and you really have to drive it, the P1 was massively quick and stupidly easy to lose your licence in (as I found out a couple of years ago!) I think I have learnt more about my driving after 2 weeks with the Westie than 3 years with the P1 though.

Would I get another one (P1 or similar that is) Yes, but I would buy it outright 2nd hand and not in this country... too many fusking coppers/speed traps...

As it is though I'm going to Australia now, I can put the westie in the container with the furniture, sell everything else... Maybe I'll see what there is in Oz, mate reckons there are a lot of Evo's and Scoobys in Brisbane, Maybe I'll try an Evo for a laugh this time...

...oh, and by the way: the Escort (Mk1 & Mk11 combined) won 31 Championship rallies in 13yrs (1968-1981).

The Integrale won 46 in half the time...

Nice try. But no cigar.

scoobysnacks

Trim rattles, misfiring engine, bone jarring ride, crap brakes. The bodywork appeared to be the same thickness as a Pepsi can.

Oh and Tang, I think at the time they changed the rules, the Quattro was being pissed on by the Lancia Delta S4...

In 1985 Lancia took the Delta S4 to the Lombard RAC Rally for its first competition and promptly came 1st and 2nd. In 1986 they proceeded to wipe the floor with everything else until Henri Toivonen and Sergio Cresto died at the Montecarlo. Group B was banned and the rules changed for 1987 when Lancia brought out the Delta HF 4WD and 8V Integrale, they both won. 1988 saw the 8V Integrale still winning. 1989 the 16V was wiping the floor with the competition. 1990 and 1991 the Evoluzione was making them look stupid. 1992 Lancia pulled out and the Jolly club STILL won.

6 years on the trot, name another manufacturer that can say that.

Lancia used technology pioneered by Audi.

They may have enhanced it and developed it, but Audi conceived it.

How much it won is irrelevant - thats why I said the MKII Escort wasn't groundbreaking - true it won, a lot, but it was nothing revolutionary. It didn't change the face of rallying for ever. It was simply an excellent tool for the job.

The quattro did - it only won three world championships (i think) but without it, Group B probably wouldn't have become what it did, and rallying would have carried on being what it was - long stage endurance testing.

Group B spawned Group A, which eventually leads us to today, where rallying is short stage sprints all about driver skill rather than longevity and tactics.

The Lancia S4 & Integrale, The Ford RS200, The Pug T16 and so on all came AFTER the quattro. They wiped the floor with it because Audi soldiered on with the frankly scary S2 Sport quattro with its longtitudunal layout and heavy old 5 cylinder lump.

But the whole point of it is, Audi virtually invented the genre. Before the quattro, nobody had really bothered with 4wd for a road car, and only Saab, BMW, and the Americans flirted with turbocharging for the masses - none with any notable success (Drive a BMW 2002 Turbo to get an idea)

I don't deny the Grale is an amazing car - a mate had one with Leda coilovers on it, and it was shockingly good - but it wasn't the revolution that the quattro was!

Thanks Merc, for that breath of sanity on this thread. Nice points well made.

BTW just signed yesterday on a second hand M5. Silverstone with black nappa point leather. Very pleased, pick the car up at the end of the week. Sad to see the Scoob go, it's been a brilliant car to won and drive but time (and the family) march on.....

WIll still look out for Scoobs.

Tang - some advice...

I take it you've just bought a 'six' M5???

If you have, get the injectors ultrasonically cleaned and check the compression on it straight away. Pref also a bore scope to check the piston deck condition. All up about £300.

My mate had one, and it had a weak injector on Number 5, this led to lean running and put a 50pence size hole in the piston. £5500 rebuild. Not even remotely funny.

Oh, and top car, and it slides like an old MK II Escort on bald crossplys!!

Not clear here. It's an E39 99 model year i.e. V8. Does your advice still apply?
