or is it 10% up?

Is there anyway to tell which rr is the most accurate? I figure that as long as I use the same one after each mod, it will be of use.

It's not always (specifically) the rolling road either. It's worth looking at the size of fans too. I was doing some testing in LA a few weeks back. Nice dyno, shame about the desk fan. The intercooler got no decent air flow, so if you raised midrange boost, the top end tailed off earlier from the heat - no use for tuning or top end power figures.

I haven't been to PowerStation, but PE have two 4kW (from memory) centrifugal 'snail' fans. Out of interest, what size are the fans at PowerStation ? Just wondering whether any difference in air flow could be the reason.

Then there's also the loading of the car. PE's power run is pretty quick - perhaps 10-20 seconds. Longer power runs cause more heat build up during the run, and show lower top end power.

There are too many variables to compare dynos side by side. I don't think you can even say one reads high and the other reads low - they are performing different tests.

Judging by other figures from PowerStation's dyno, the quoted STI 7 PPP figures look pretty much spot on for what Prodrive quote. A standard 99MY was 14BHP down on book figure on those rollers (7% ish) - see first run on dyno.scoobynet for PowerStation. If you add 7% onto 280 BHP, you get 299 BHP.

I don't know what fans PS use but for TMIC Scoobs, they open the bonnet and have a fan which points directly (down) at the TMIC. Sometimes they squirt water onto the IC during the run also.....

Matt, yes indeed, they use 2 fans, one in front, one on TMIC.

Stephen, the spool up on PS rollers is pretty slow, and takes probably double the time IIRC (40-ish secs). So I would assume heatsoak will be worse on PS rollers.

As you say, each RR has to be considered as a different test, there is no accuracy.

P1 with many prodrive goodies.
274.5bhp @ 6850rpm

90.5 bhp drag. Is that too high - How can I reduce it?
Great morning out.

Question

Just had a old M8(MY97,Evo6 now Sti7PPP'd) email me concern about the lack of boost in 5th and 6th. I have had it in 6th but only had the feeling, as no boost gauges to busy to look at speedo most times.
When playing with the bike I used the IC Waterspray (outside <8*c) and pulled like a train.
I seem to remember Dave-Ts and some others having Engine check light problems. is the ECU base parameter too low now PPP has had a Cat removed and a sports Cat fitted ???

Thumbs down

Sqizz,
I didn't quite get chance to try it Really looked the business I would certainly be interested if it could output to a HUD unit. Far to busy looking at the road to look at gauges

I use a HUD for speed and revs but haven't got the boost one yet. Think it is about £180!!

To begin with its great then it starts to get annoying, especially at night it is too distracting even on lowest brightness. I will be moving mine to the lower right hand corner of the windscreen so it is not directly in my feild of vision but still do not need to look down to read the figures.

If you fancy a peak at my HUD I could meet you up at Poachers Pocket next week sometime. Let me know if its a go.

Neil.

Russell,
Have you got a graph pre PPP ?? I spoke to Listers they said if "WE" were unhappy with the results or Performance Prodrive would be more than happy to resolve it.
Mine was 287Bhp, output 204bhp,Pdrag 82bhp, Torque 245lbs Max Torque at 61mph 4570rpm
I am happier with PPP than without but we all know BHP is not what we use its the Torque and that should be closer to 300lbs. If my Torque had read in the 280's and the car drives like it does I wouldn't be concerned I would just put it down to the Rolling road being 10% down/different.

Looking at that graph again. I thought Torque/BHP curve had to intersect at 5250 RPM.

This one obviously doesn't.... ??
