standard xsi bumpers sprayed with arcyrlic plastic primer, and then painted with 2k filler / primer to remove rough finish.. then painted same colour as car.

Looking good.
What did you use regarding the spraying? (I've got a couple of bits including a large panel to do on my car, so a bit of advice would be great!)

David - thanks a lot for that. I just wondered what sort of paint & spray gun you used, as you look to have got a great finish.
(Turns out it's about the same as my local paint shop sells...)
Is the 2k paint flexible enough for bumpers, or is it add plasticiser time?
Sorry for all the questions - I'm quite new to the different sorts of car paints that you can get. (I'm usually not too bad at getting them on the car nicely though...)
Just need to find somewhere warm & dry to spray my front bumper and driver's door. (again - as I didn't like the colour match the last time)
Thanks!

dnb, the plasticiser is used when you paint a bare plastic part, you spray it on before primer. If your bumper is already primed you won't need to use it.
2K paint is fine on bumpers.
I don't know what you've used before, cellulose at a guess? 2K goes on much, much better If you can spare some paint, have a quick practise first dust a light coat on first, wait a few mins then blast a wet coat over, that should do it oh, if you're doing clear over base, don't get the colour on wet, dust a good few coats over or it'll go patchy, then lacquer as above.
Good luck!

Thanks BOB. Yes, I've been using celulose paint (on plenty of things other than cars...)
I'm looking forward to getting this spraying done. I've got plenty of bits to practice on, but am a bit stuck for somewhere to do it until the weather cheers up a bit.
Still, plenty of other jobs to do!
I'll stop hijacking now

best thing is with the lacquer you can move the runs off the panel
Like bob says dust the paint on.. it will look crap whilst wet.. have patience.. laquer will transform it... there are a few marks on this car.. will post tonight with a decent camera.. :rolleys:
Just so much easier to get pics of the phone.

I've never really had a problem with getting runs in the paint...
Guess it means I usually don't put enough on in a coat
It's much nicer to have somewhere clean and warm to paint in. I like my creature comforts I could do with a garage of my own really, instead of having to borrow them...
Thanks for the advice. I'll make sure I show you all the disaster when it happens

David, do you know what air pressure you use?
also, to avoid runs, is it possible to put more thinner coats of laquer (sp?) on, then cut it back after, or does that method not work?
cheers

Looks ok now...
I paint at about 25 - 30 psi..
Paint a reasonable coat on.. paint a wet line and then overlap by about 1/3 - 1/2..
You could put thinner coats on but you may put more overspray onto the car..
Shouldnt run if the temperature is right, the right amount of activator and hardener..
Just have patience.. I dont so normally put runs in by not waiting 10 mins or so between coats of lacquer..
Shouldnt need to cut it back at all..
Compound after a week or two..
