Someone did a nasty 160bhp stripped out mini a while back - cost a fortune!! Remember they weigh next to nothing!

LOL!

I'll agree with J Deacon there, 1800 + 2000cc type-r Honda blocks are now becoming the way forward! however (and this is also in agreement), the Vauxhall 2000 16 v (C20XE) block is a good way to get a small car to go quickly.

i know someone who had a 182BHP 2ltr Nova and it would happily dust GTI-6's Golf VR6's etcetc, in fact it held its own against an E36 M3......................................I know I thought that was Bolarx 2 until I witnessed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems to be that Mini enthusiats will get anything and everything into a Mini these days..............just like the mid-mounted RST Turbo lump powered Mini which for the past two years has been the fastest sub 2000cc (well almost any) car at Ultimate Street Car show in the summer. The car happily runs 11 sec 1/4 miles all day long and I think on its best run produced an unbelievable 10.73second time!!!!!!!!!

Anyway at the end of the day I guess its just horses for courses.................just don't let your mates see you lose to 'lesser' opposition!

Cool

Abiding memory of a V8 Chevy engined beasty in a Mini-Van. Needless to say bulk-head work had to be done but the only way to tell was the fact that it had 15" rear wheels - 8" wide each

Grass-trackers using Fiat X19 engines in mini-pickups...

I remember that minivan - called stripteaser, and had a modified 4.2 jaguar straight 6 in the back. Used to leap a foot in the air when drive was engaged. I've probably got some pics of it somewhere...

Colin

Sounds a different one. The engine was definately in the front, the front bulkhead removed and the driver's position moved back 1ft

I got "chased" by a seriously quick Metro Turbo a few months ago coming out of Retford, Nottinghamshire. I only just managed to shake the little critter off and I was really giving it some

I reckoned it was a modified Turbo version. I have never admitted to this before as it was quite embarrassing

Power to weight

Heres a links page for some modded minis

http://www.16vmini.co.uk/links.php3?category=Engine%20Transplant

I know my mini has a better power to weight ratio than my Scoob, it just means it spins the wheels a lot

I've got a huge list somewhere of all the engines I've seen or heard of put into Minis, inc a supercharged flat four, the owner wouldn't show me though

There is a new BMW mini cooper around here, not the S, with a mean backbox, 17" wheels and 6pots (yes 6) brakes out front as the only indications that something is amiss.....but I think there might be a turbo or something serious upfront as apparently (I've only seen it passing) the bonnet has a strange cutout with a lump/intake, and it makes very menacing noises.

Mate in a current 911 carrera said that it had it besides at an intersection and when the lights turned green it just flew away. He was not pushing too hard (say 6.5-7sec 0-60) but he said the mini must have done it well under 6 at the rate it was pulling away! And he said it sounded like an angry jet. I'm investigating, as I'm currently driving the wife's cooper (unemployed and STI-less )

Sorry to upset you scooby boys....but I have just got rid of my P1 to fund the finish to a mini I'm having built. Won't say to much at the mo but 0-60 3.0secs, 310bhp, RWD, under 500kg!

Being built by the famous Chris @ Z Cars http://www.zcars.org.uk

Will be finished before xmas so you will see it in Mini World/Magazine, CCC etc and on tv, Fifth Gear, Pulling Power and Top Gear (fingers crossed!) early 2003.

Can't wait 'til summer '03.

When I had my Cooper I went to Mini Sport 'up North' to check out their performance packs and got taken out by the maddest driver ever in a souped up mini for a test drive - we were going round B road bends at over 100 - never been so scared!

:-)
