But hey each unto their own, if you like the lights then thats ALL that counts.

Hi, all, new to this board, but not to other Subaru boards (I post under the same name at I-Club, RS25.com, and the Ultimate Subaru Message Board). Now, I just have to ask, are you guys seriously looking forward to those lights? I have never been a fan of that style, and have always been happy to say that they weren't even available for the GC8, but now my heart has been broken, and I really dread the first day I see a fellow GC8'er driving around with those things on the back of his/her car. And I'm not alone on this, it's very rare that you find anyone looking for those type of lights for the GC8 over here in the States. Anyways, I just had to get that off my chest, and let you know that there is no need to reserve a pair for me. Peace!

Well I'd post mine up but had a half hearted attempt at taking the originals out in the rain and they wont budge!

Got in the boot and tried to push them out but only one side wants to move, and can't get purchase on the outside part of the light to pull it out!

How the frick did you get em out, spose mine have been bonded in 8 years!

Also the band of body trim under the light looks like it's fixed to the light (moves with the light) how did you get this off?, looks like I'd snap it in half if I tried to get it off

jameswrx - keep trying mate they will be well bonded in but they do come out. Also the trim at the bottom of the lights is held in with three screws you remove this and fit them to your new rear clusters.

Can someone please do them for me on a red scoob? I've mixed feelings about these at the moment, they look good on silver, not so good on the blue, so a piccie would help.
Cheers peeps!

Do you have a hair dryer or, better yet, a heat gun? The lights are held in place and sealed by gooey black stuff, and if you heat the light from inside the trunk (or boot to you, I guess ), it will soften up the goo and make it easier to push out from the inside. Once you get it pushed out enough, you will be able to get a grip from the outside and pull. And the bottom strip is just help in place by a few screws, really easy to swap over. I did this on my Impreza 2.5RS, swapping the red/orange lights of it with the JDM red/clears from the GC8 WRX. Oh, make sure to get some more sealant to put on the new lights, or you're going to have leakage problems. I used a 3M WindoWeld strip sealant, not sure if you have that over there, but a glass shop should be able to hook you up with what you need, it's the same stuff they use on the side glass. Anyways, still don't like those lights, but if you are going to put them on your car, might as well help you do it right!

James WRX

I too had trouble removing my original lights. I have to admit I didn't spot the final bolt in the very end of the light, under the sound deadening. But once I removed that I still had to use a piece of wood and a wooden mallet to "bang" it out. This seems pretty extreme, but its the only way to free up the dreaded black gunk that holds em in place. Also try to push the last bolt outwards towards the side of the car, as it fouls the threads when you are pushing / hammering...above all else.. be gentle.
When you do eventualy get the old lights out, don't lose the small rubber seals that are on each bolt / spindle. The metal strip is bolted to the bottom of the light housing, so you'll need to remove it and bolt it onto the new lights.

Have fun .... Mixit

Edited Coz I can't spell for toffee

Red face

mixit - I love the look of those lights on silver scoob!

Now, whose got em installed on a WHITE scoob or better, a white WICKED WAGON?!?

Here in NZ we've got a really small rice rocket market, most of the mods are generally just bodykits and mags. I talked to a shop yesterday and the lexus lights are coming in about 8 weeks, and will cost over $1000 for a pair (that's about 300 pounds).
