Did someone say Rover 620!!!!
My god there are some ill informed people on here.
Dont touch a Rover 620 ever, and I mean EVER!. They are the ultimate shed and were a result of Rover when they were really bad. Yes I can talk on this as I unfortuantly had a Rover 620ti for a few weeks which was used by a driving company for track days, it was tuned to 250bhp and had a full roll cage and harnesses etc etc - nasty nasty car, build quality was ****, performance in a straight line was ok but a Corrado VR6 would put it to sleep, handling was like soap in the shower - it was the worst car Ive had the misfortune to own ever in my life and Ive had a few rotters!!
Stay WELL CLEAR - absolute shed.

you are going to be looking at a car that is getting on abit so i would go for a (E34)BMW 525i 24v SE or SPORT, you can pick them up nice and cheap and you get a lot of car for your money with plenty room for 5 people, try one,you will be suprised how good they are
£3000 will get you a 94/5 car with all the toys.

From: up a bit, left a bit, down a bit, to the right no left ahhh just there
Go for the GSi cavalier, better looks?? than the nissan, great basis for tuning, if you so desire. Handling is easily sorted, if thats your bag. Just don't let R*gal anywhere near it!!!!
Look for the usual rusting rear arches, oh soo common on the Mk4 cav's, check the rear spring seats as they are prone to corrosion/rot. Make sure all the toys work electric mirrors/sunroof, trip computer, heated seats (if leather trim) etc etc

cav GSI better looks than a P11 primera GT !!!! no way the primera is a much nicer car much better interior, fantastic seats, very very good handling, good economy will do 39mpg also has cheap insurance £611 for me at 22 with 2 years no claims, oh it also dont rust like a cav

Dogmaul, Gotta agree with you there. The primera is just more modern feeling with more modern handling than a similar aged Cavalier. I may be wrong but IIRC the Cavalier is an older design that was replaced 7 years ago by the Vectra. The original primera platform was used right up until 1999.

yep it was people say its dull looking i dont think so its more understated than dull nice Q car also if you get the special edition with the flip paint work it really does look good or even in the burnt orange it looks nice. Just think it is the basis for the most successful touring car ever

Looks wise it's down to personnel tast but I have to agree the Primera GT is a bargin for what you get, although a little bland in the styling department.

I agree with you all but theres something about a Primera that just puts me off, they are very Slough Shopkeeper cars, even the quick ones.
Not a fan at all, urrrghh. But then I wouldnt want to be seen in a Cav now either!!

Please, anyone who considers a 406/cavalier/primera alongside let alone in preference to a 325i sport needs their bumps feeling
Silky, torquey unstressed 6-cyl engine Vs tinny, low torque 4-pot
c175bhp Vs c150bhp
RWD Vs FWD
German build quality Vs French/Jap/British
Icon-ic sports saloon Vs taxi fodder
Please tell me you are not serious The E30 325i Sport (especially post-facelift) is/was one of the best BMWs of all time, and still the definitive sports saloon of the late 80's/early 90's.

yeah i prefer the primera to the bmw big deal i happen to like very little that comes out of munich. but it depends on what you want from the car and as its neither of us buying this car its not for us to decide. anyway i prefer the 39mpg of the primera much more to the 325's 20mpg
#48
The Primera will get 39mpg as often as the BMW would get 20mpg - AND vice versa. Both will deliver high 20's in the real world....one just does it with style and RWD
I have only ever driven two Primera's. One a 2.0GLX the other the 'sporty model' - 2.0e GT? Both nice cars, nothing offensive, but nothing special. Same with Cav GSI's, Mondeo Si/V6, et al. Agree we can't all afford to spend big bucks on 300bhp monsters, but you can still get very good cars at all budgets.

Stay away from prestige and there are some newer are some Bargin sporty saloons around for £3000 which being younger, may be a better bet than a 10 years old BMW which may have been whipped by several owners.

Mmmmmmm - more chance of a 'reps favourite' Mondeo being 'whipped' than a 325, plus a like with all German contenders, they can take a harder 'whipping' than the flimpsier contenders/pretenders
As for the Probe <insert vomitting emoticon>
