Is a standard UK scooby this bad?
I can see the reason for the exhaust, but the ITG? and the dump valve? I've got an ITG in my cupboard ready to go on, but didnt think it was worth the bother in the end. Surely a dump valve would only change the sound of the car since its fitted with a Recirculating as standard anyway, btw I had a SSQV, car was slower and made a crap sound!
I've just fitted a full decat (Magnex D/P and center, TSL Firestorm backbox) to my MY97 UK and I can confirm it makes a massive difference. It just feels so much more lively, and just keeps on pulling right up to the redline. And the noise, THE NOISE!!!!! OH THE NOISE!!! It justs sounds supurb, especially since I've got a forge VTA also. I'll be fitting a Dawes this weekend so my grin will be even wider

What is a Dawes btw? I've heard of Tek2 and got some prices and so on, but whats the difference, BTW my main concern on the exhaust is the MOT! I take it I cant get those kinda performance differences without losing both cats?
I understand the faster release, also with no air going into the recirc pipe but how does it build up faster, surely its a closed system on build up, so a bung over the whole in the intercooler would do the same job as ANY dump valve surely?

Id spend some time on launch practice. It can make the difference between losing to a £2k sh*t box, or keeping up with the majority of Ferrari's (to 60 of course
we know what happens after that
)
If you slip the clutch you will be held back in your seat and be scrambling for second. Drop the clutch and floor it and you will be taken by large public transport vehicles!
4WD is a bit different to get the power down....

true, but if we apply this to computers, you can reliably clock an Athlon XP 1900 to 1.8Ghz and it wont fail! REASON: becuase its cheaper to make all the parts the same and stamp the speed on them at the last minute, dunno how I can apply that to cars tho, sorry
As far as I can see the exhaust is the only thing worth doing and we know why they dont do that as standard!

UK Scoobs are great, cheaper insurance, running it without octane booster, warranty, good dealer network....
and if you're willing to spend the money, you can have a very, very fast car!

If I knew how to launch an impreza I would, but I dont, my practices start at a smelly clutch at one extreme and end in first gear judder (lack of power). But 0-60 I killed him anyway, thats not my concern, especially with winter coming up
PS Lewis: Surely you can say the same about any modifications? 'If Subaru intended it to be there they would have fitted it' There's no reason for a Dawes to make the car unreliable if you are sensible with the boost and keep an eye on things with a boost guage and AFR at the least, and a Kocklink for extra safety.
Andy, thats serious money tho!
For some of us an impreza is a dream car, spending a shed load of money on it AS WELL as buying it aint gonna happen, I'm only 23!
I will spend on it a bit at a time and see where I get!

Jason, I think what they say about dump valves is true for cars which dont have them, but for cars with recirc as standard I think its less true
The price of a forge DV is more than a decat centre section

All I know is that all the car books say, "MODIFIED Imprezas spell T R O U B L E ...... standard cars are amongst the most reliable on the road"
They DO know what they are talking about!

Sort the Zorst first, then master the launch.
I tried a variation on Saturday, 2300rpm released the clutch then matted it. Perfect launch, no clutch slip and I had never reached 60mph so fast.
Standing starts are not recomended tho as they can eat clutches and think what you are doing to the drive train. This is why I don't *normally* partake in TLGP.

Fitting a decat is not going to effect reliability. It just lets the engine 'breath' more freely, thus being more efficient and producing more power. Playing with the boost can effect reliability, but only if you get silly. Modest increases will be fine.
Apparently Scoobysport will fit a twin centre section and get the car MOT'd for you but I dont know at what cost, i'll ring them when I've got the money.
BTW, I've seen manifolds giving similar increases, is this too far or another good mod?

Reading back a bit...... 2300rpm drop the clutch and accelerate..
imho that will bog you down more than enough.....
4-5k drop clutch.. grab 2nd... then you will know all about being stuck in your seat!!!!!!!!!!!
Rob
Just to add, escorts dont do 'engine modifications' they do

UHF,
that nice flat 4 sound is caused because the manifold isnt even, now if you have an even length manifold you will loose the sound of the flat 4
but i think you can have it polished, the gains will be there but may not be quite as high.
