The VTS is not as fast as the 172 in a straight line!!! FACT!
However, I still remember truddling up to the Honda garage in the VTS and I still remember leaving in sheer amazement at how fricking fast it was once it came on cam. In my opinion the CTR is the modern hatch that delivers what it promises. If you haven't driven a CTR then don't cause I'm confident any 172 driver would leave wondering if they should have reached a little deeper into their pocket.

Hey buy an early WRX with a few mods for a few grand. And then you don't need to have these conversations. 300bhp 4wd. enough said.
Best wishes
Steve
P.S - I love french hot hatches. 205 Gti one of the best cars I have owned (that was 1989). And I am sure that they have got better as the years have gone on, as Saxo Boy knows.

True, I think I'll always fondly remember my first hot-hatch. Bit like your first sh@g, might not be the best sh@g of your life but it always has a special place in your heart
Aj test drove a VTS today and despite me running around in a 270bhp scooby all day I was a little green eye'd....says it all really

SaxoBoy,
I've driven a CTR, I felt no difference in speed compared to my 172!
There was a Type R at Crail running high 15's, IMO it would be a sideways step from a 172 to a Type R!

High 15s!!! Poof can't drive then
The type-r I drove surged forward when it hit VTEC. It really would give my scoob a fright....almost Your right though, I think when you get a hot-hatch the others are pretty much going sideways.

I'm with BlueNose and DarkForce here. I think the VTS is a cracking car, that handles very well, but the 106 GTi is a step closer to perfection in terms of handling balance, I think, in my humble opinion.
Also, I have a brand new Cup that performs as well as my Integra Type-R, both have clocked identical 30-70 times, ie 5.9 seconds, and although I am also a huge fan of the CTR, I have to agree with the above gentlemen that there is nothing in it bw the 172 Cup and the CTR.
At the end of the day we are debating minuscule differences, all these cars, the 172, VTS, 106 and CTR are all excellent motors.

Well, EVO managed 5.8 out of their Mk1 172 a couple of years ago, I have the article in front of me. The Autocar road test of the Integra also showed a 5.9 second 30-70 time. I have an Autoexpress road test here of the Mk2 172, 30-70 in 6.1 seconds.
So, I am afraid you are wrong, these things REALLY shift once the traction issue is over with.
The reason I now have a Cup is that a couple of years ago I came across a friendly chap in a Mk1 172, who was just as quick as my Integra( which surprised me and pissed me off a bit, lol! ). The Integra wasn't far off the pace of my MY97 Subaru, and was definitely faster through the gears than the new WRX.

Also with regards to your scooby, if it is a 270 bhp car, it'll be monstrously quick 30-70. My EVO6 clocked 4.19 seconds 30-70, and that was fairly standard with exhaust and intake, running about 310 bhp. I don't think a 270 bhp scooby would be far behind that.
Tell you what though, if you appear some time at a track day or whatever, feel free to play with my AP22 on your cars. It's good fun, if nothing else. I use it mainly for intercar comparisons and for before/after mods.
Cheers!

I estimate that a good 0-60 in Theo's car now would be about 4.5 seconds, 0-100 in 12, 30-70 in 4.5, 1/4 in about 13 with a power to weight ratio of about 240 bhp/ton. But then it is running a P1 turbo at more than P1 boost Anything else except an Evo will pale in comparison miserably Theo.

The AP22 is an inertia based silicon chip that works rather like the labyrinth in the inner ear.
Check out their web site, they have independent reviews on it there, which ultimately made me buy one. Great for wasting time, clutches, and tyres on!

http://www.seight.com/ has the best independent review, with comparisons of AC22 results with Santa Pod measuring gear.
