I'm heading over just before 12. I'll take a run through the Shell garage at the F R Bridge around 11:45 if you want me to show you the road I'll see you if you're there.
Not taking the car on track this time though, in the middle of some engine changes and it still needs set up properly

Ahh, it's almost like christmas, frosty and sunny outside, and after a year of racing at Kames, Crail tracks and numerous 1/4 miles, I'm finally having a pop at Knockhill.
Iain-it is unfortunate that there is 1000kg of Rover around the K-Series engine, not to worry, the uprated brakes and suspension should help me out a bit.
Imprezzive-I wouldn't worry about a standard Scooby not being quick enough, I reckon I'll be winning the least powerful car of the day competition, it's all about having fun after all isn't it.
Guess I best make a move then if I'm not to be late to meet Iain. No doubt see a few of you up there.
Ross.

VX220, Elise, scooby = fun,fun,fun.
Baz I will bring a bucket and spade next time!!!
Kosy, I spotted your Kossie parked up and thought it was a gen. KH track car due to the slicks on the front!!!
Try our friend Jim Dickson for new legal boots m8!!!

What a day. Started off wet and muddy (spun on the warm up laps). What a great mix of cars loads of Scoobs, Smarties, Westies and Sevens. A few Skylines also. I want one. The day ended up quite dry and the pace quickened. Had a flash back to Tourdecosse 2001 when N1TUT required a tow rope. Hopefully it will be an easy fix. Got a bit annoyed when I was flagged off with twenty minutes to go. Apparently the track marshals do not like to see sparks flying from your front brakes. New pads needed I think. Anyway great day out, thanks John. S.
Cheers

That was another fantastic session, as Shaun said it started off well slippy, everyone came back from their warm ups with tales of sliding about. I think we also set a record for the highest amount of red flags in a half hour period, before things settled down.
It was cool at the end when the dry line appeared and the pace upped a good bit.
Could have done without the constant misfire but it didn’t slow me down too much
Might be my last one for a long time (maybe forever ) so a big thanks to John for organising all of the events I've been to in the last 2 years, and to everyone else for the great sport and good banter
I just want to say in advance, it wasn’t my fault

Fantastic day and many thanks to John, yet again. Like Shaun I managed to find my self facing the wrong way quite quickly during the warm up sessions. However I was showing young Ross around before he went out on his warm up session and was covering what to do in the event of a spin. I showed him how good everybody is at emergency braking and how quick the marshalls are at showing the yellow flag. I then showed him how to do a three point turn at the haripin in the face of oncoming traffic. Now I felt that was commintement.
After a few more sliddy moments I decided to put my better tyre back on the rear and grip improved a tad. Thoroughly enjoyed watching such a variety of cars coping in the conditions. Very impressed with the way many folk were handling their cars. Plenty Red flags and muddy cars but luckily didn't loose too much time on track. The track looked more like a rally cross section at times. Probably the widest range of cars on an SIDC event and was a bit like a "Spot the Scooby" competition at times.
Wasn't till later in the afternoon that I became more confident in the track and grip and then had an even better time. Was impressed with the VX220 compared to my Elise S2 and got a pax lap in it. Didn't manage to get a Skyline pax lap so did the next best thing and followed one round the track. That's when I learned an important lesson. I obvioulsy couldn't catch it on the straight but was having to brake loads behind it in the corners and found my self quite close behind it comming up to the chicane when it went into a hairy slide at the chicane. Was extremely lucky to miss it and got quite an adrenallin blast. Now I also saw one or two people in my rear view mirror at an even closer ditance than that. I keep an eye on my rear view mirror and always try to move over for faster cars so nobody needs to be that close to me to hint to move over. My very, very lucky escape made me make sure that if I wanted somebody to move over then I kept a little bit more distance between myself and them.
I also saw sparks comming from a Scooby's wheels near the end but it wasn't yours Shaun. Was like a fireworks display from behind. The dry line that appeared later in the day was great and was going round more or less as quickly as on a dry day. Was good meeting so many friends again, sorry some of the pax laps were not quite as fast as some I have done but was trying to keep the smartie on track.
Even though I don't think I will be on track next year I will still come along to watch.
Cheers Iain

Brilliant day.
Like a Kames (real track surface) combined with Crail (higher speeds than Kames), and added bonus's of challenging bits.
My ickle 1.4 may not have been the fastest thing on 4 wheels down the straights, but I reckon I made up for it in the corner ridden section from duffus to the back straight, or were you just lettimg me stay close up there so you could admire my self fitted rubber splitter
Thanks for the initial on track guidance Iain, your dedication to teh caue once again surprises me, not only will you spin at Crail to get me coming round a corner behind you on film, but you also create yellow flag incident deliberately to show me how it works, smashing.
I too saw the difference in teh higer powered cars from straights to corners, much slower on corners, to tell the truth I was surpised to find myself keeping up with the Scoobies through the corners on most occasions. And to find that the red R34 GTR that you had a "close view" of Iain, was left trailing until we got to the back straight, the uprated brakes and so on obviously working wel on the Rover. Desp[ite the fact I have 0 pad on the left wheel and about 1mm on the right now. It was an interesting drive home. lol. No Kames for me 2moro then apart from spectating.
Thanks to SIDCfor allowing me the chance to do Knockhill without the lunacy of the hot hatchers around me.
Ross.

Firstly, BIG thanks to John for putting the time and effort into organising all the events this year, including yesterdays. It is much appreciated.
Good day out yesterday although a lot of red flags - unsurprisingly as it was fairly slippy. Everyone seemed quite sensible although there always seems to be one or two that either do not listen or adhere to the briefing. I won't bother mentioning the car involved but myself and a Caterham 7 spent two laps stuck behind someone that refused to over despite me flashing him on two seperate occaions and indicating that I wanted by also.
It's pretty simple - if someone is behind you, that wasn't there before, they are going faster than you, look for an opportunity to indicate to the right and let them by. Don't be a plonker!
Anyway, thanks again John - roll on 2003 track dates.

Glad you all enjoyed the day
If there was anyone not pulling over (especially for two laps!!), then you should have reported it to myself or one of the marshalls.
If you drop me an e-mail identifying the car (some had several drivers, with some having their first time driving on track, so a little leeway is permitted), then I'll have a word with them.
See you all again next year. Dates will be announced once the racing season is announced, so we know when the available hire dates are.

AFR & John
There was at least one car which appeared later in the day, the driver of one of those actually pointed to the right of his car when I flashed him/her that I wanted him/her to move over, I can only assume he/she did not attend the briefing .
Also one or two cars overtaking going into the hairpin .
But, A great day, I was very cautious early on as I had never been out in the wet before, but loved it anyway .
Many thanks to JohnS and KH.

After reading AFR’s comments, I have to add that I would say that the track etiquette was probably the poorest I have seen at an SIDC event, don’t get me wrong, overall it was very good as always, but…..
On several occasions I was stuck behind a train of cars for lap after lap and no one was getting past and when someone did eventually pull over they would not “lift off” a bit making it very difficult for other cars to get past, so instead of 2 or 3 cars getting past only 1 could get by at a time.
And something that really upset me was that when my brother was having his first go on track a lot of drivers were hassling him to get by, he said that this was very scary, also when he did pull over sometimes several cars squeezed their way past causing him to not be able to get back on the racing line before the next corner, these experienced drivers should know that they are getting very close to the corner, and hold back to let the slower car back on line. Pity I was too busy helping him that I didn’t see who it was.
And lets not mention the White Honda
I have enough experience to look after myself and others round about me and I do hassle people a bit if they won’t let me past, but for a newbie like my brother it was well scary at times. I think he had a silver Elise and a Lotus 7 stuck behind him for a lap or so, but as they were not obviously looking like they were able to get past (read sliding about) I told him to concentrate on his lines until they were right behind him, and as soon as they were he let them past.

What really annoyed me more than anything else about the car I was stuck behind, was that I felt I was being put in a position where I would have to contravene the briefing and pass him on the right. I've never flashed anyone before and will wait patiently for a few corners. Eventually, I let the 7 behind me by as I didn't want to get stuck in a sandwich situation, who promptly drove about 3" away from the guy (not a Subrau BTW - a Nissan), then he moved over. I went by then also - shaking my fist, old grandpa style.
John, it was near the end of the day so I didn't bother mentioning it. Cheers.

Aye cracking day - cheers John
Stuart - I hope it wasn't me putting your brother off. I do remember on a couple of occasions following your car through bends and then passing on the straights. I thought it was you driving so I wasn't too worried about being close through the turns, although I do remember wondering why you were a good bit slower than usual - I should've twigged. If it was me, please pass on my apologies to your bro.
Thinks ... rally style plates ... with suckers ... reversible ... PAX welcome on one side (yellow) ... track novice on the other (red) ...
If you see a red sign in the rear window of a car on track - be patient and give it room.
Anyway, I was thinking this afternoon, I did 80 laps on Saturday and my consumption was 8.6mpg (incl. to and from the Shell garage) - which isn't actually too bad.

Was probably worth the trip just to see CT wearing a Shelock Holmes hat in his black STi. Pipe and slippers or what!!
Dougster, cheers for the comment... el stundento loan has just cleared so gonna get new tyres all round They got wasted in the last two weeks, plus i had a few other expenditures so took the risk. Have you got the number of the best bloke to get em from?
Lots and lots of nice cars there, will post my pics later today.
