SB, agreed mate the UK is full of w@nkers.
W@nkers that don't know the highway code/RTA or indeed how to drive generally.
If we could sort that out, there wouldn't be so many long queues because ignorant (and I use that word in its truest sence) drivers wouldn't sit about like sheep making the problem worse, and instead would use all of the available lanes, where appropriate to do so
The real problem is that the majority of the UK's driving population are thick as sh*t and wouldn't understand what was the correct way to do something even if it was written down for them.

Blimey - what a lot of debate!
My comments for what it's worth.
1) Yes it is fustrating seeing people "queue jumping", however as previously stated (by JF I think) which is better a 1 mile tail back, two lanes wide with people merging in turn or a 2 mile tail back with an empty lane and the 2 mile tail back causing an additional mile of chaos for people trying to get across the traffic or it clogging up round abouts etc?
2) Highway code - unless you are overtaking, you should be in the left most lane. Once you have overtaken, you should return to the left lane as soon as practicable (and safe). So in your example SB, all of you in the right hand lane were actually in the wrong. Something that may be of use, passed on to me by a Police Driver who was training me for the IAM test "If somebody undetakes you, ask yourself what you are doing wrong. If there is space for them to pass you on the inside, then you should have been in the left hand lane anyway". I appreciate that this is slightly "in the ideal world" as motorway driving is so bad, that if you did this all the time, you would never get back out in to the outside lane as people close up the gaps to such unsafe distances it is ridiculous.
Rant over
Hmm - finally trolled through the other 6 pages after the point when I posted this - seems most of this has been covered!!

ROTFLMAO @ this thread coming back! It's over a year old now Time flys!!!
- 10pm-4am working days for all
- reduced taxes
- 40p a litre off fuel
- reduced beer tax
- I'll build a wall do divide scotland from england
Interestingly its strange how in the last year my attitudes to driving have changed!!!! I still feel the people in the scenerio I outlined on page 1 were taking the p1ss but now I'm faced with a new and similar scenerio most days. When driving home I often get nailed by traffic at the Gogar roundabout but the left-hand lane to the airport is usually clear. I drive past about half a mile of traffic, fire out the airport (3 miles) and swing back in to approach the roundabout such that I can use its underpass. Strangely this is a LOT quicker than queuing! The thing is, when you get to the underpass there is always a queue of about 400+m of cars sitting in the left-hand (slow if you will) lane. The right-hand (fast) lane is free the whole way up to the massive big sign that says merge in turn here??? Nobody uses the outside lane despite the indication that its perfectly fine to do so Every night I overtake about 70 cars, indicate, wait patiently and get let in. Maybe its some disease where drivers do the exact opposite of what they are instructed to do!
Generally though my driving is terrible now! I've adopted a 'if you can't beat them join them' attitude and I regularly use the power of the scooby to bully other drivers! I particularly get p!ssed off with van drivers I'm an jerk on the road and I know it but at least I'm not like the other 90% of drivers that are total morons and don't know it

Ah, the classic thread is back again
Given that you've never met me, you have very few posts on SN (suggesting that you haven't met the 'electronic me') and that you have used a descriptive, insulting and broadbrush term to describe me it would seem that I'm not the only opinionated person here
And if we are being honest I think you'll have a hard job proving that the majority of van drivers aren't total morons. Feel free to start another thread but I'm sure most SN'ers will agree that most of them are terrible drivers (when driving their vans!).
You are a bit of an opinionated arsehole as well by the looks of it..!!

What should be done is......Get cars and car drivers with their mickey mouse licenses off the roads and let them use the excellent public transport network, helping keep the roads free for the truckers,40 tonnes and 460 brake now thats the way to travel!
Just keep the scoob for the weekend! you know it makes sense.

Hey, that's Comiston Road in Edinburgh, and the junction is Greenbank crossroads....
I may add that the BMW has taken a route via a steep grassy slope that is actually a natural ampitheatre with natural grass seats cut into the slope - I guess BMW drivers like to perform to an audience

Imlach the grass seats are on the slope on the other side of the burn They used to be great fun to cycle down on a mountain bike
I forgot about the picture. PMSL @ the BMW driver technique
Matt, there is a subtle difference between what the drivers were doing on Buckstone Terrace and what I do at the Gogar but we'll discuss it in the summer when this thread appears again

Ah, what a memory.
Didn't post on this one, as I thought I'd let little Saxo Boy have a rest after his fuel surge slating
The bravery is astounding - one person openly admitting that they have as much driving skill and sense as a german shepherd, and doing so on several occassions!
You are to be applauded young man!

Nice one SB Brilliant thread! The development of a Scooby Driver
Must say I agree with most of the posts on here depending on mood and time of day - except the van/truck drivers! - send it all by train or by Scooby 5 door

I will openly admit I'm FAR more agressive (but not dangerous as such) in the scooby so I was probably a better driver when I had the Saxo I fear to think what I'd be like with a 318i bmw with M3 bodykit and fake badges

Only had the Scoob for a month or so, think I have chilled a bit to be honest. Get less involved in the traffic light drag race as with most things I just look and know there would be no contest and so don't bother.
Mind you the misses thinks I am driving faster on the country lanes, probably am, just doesn't feel like it!!
