Boy racer? How many boys, or young people can afford the insurance let alone the cost of buying the car? Just ignore such inane remarks which are sure to be the product of owners of alternative marques who have discovered, too late, that their car is no match for ours.

IMHO

The scoob is a great car in every way, can be improved but 'out of the box' a damn good car.

As for image, if that bothers you then heh thats your look out. I would not let that stop me buying another one, how many cars can deliver this much for the money, not just the performance, 5 seats, estste if you want it, reliable (generally) easy to drive and above all great fun. There are quicker cars but not many and not for the money.

Image (if it has a 'wide boy/boy racer' image which i do not think it does) be dammed, life is just to short to worry about it.

There will always be '*****' that drive each and every marque of car, does not make the car a bad 'un.

In some respects I agree to the origional post.

Too many Subaru's now are being 'tarted' up far to much and end up looking like something out of tacky american movies or glitzy japanese car shows.

The subaru got were it is for it's rally pedigree and purposfull looks....not for having tints, neons, chrome wheels and 8inch exhausts....

As mentioned they are going the same way as alot of the RS Fords...but think about it for a minute...

Whats worth more now a 3-Door 1986 Sierra Cosworth, lowered, painted mettallic purple, with a roll cage and 18 inch chrome alloys
OR
A genuine, subtley modified example with slight boost increase and a 3.5inch stainless exhaust....

Go one then keep modifiying them... it'll just make mine worth a whole load more .....

I'd been getting the siren-call of car showrooms - and visiting dodgy Web pages (y'know, ones about cars..) and I was kind of getting tired of the Scoob image. I got about as far as looking at an X-Type, and then I realised that I couldn't do it. I just couldn't, it just wasn't sort of Scooby enough. Very shiny, but I couldn't do it.

So I'll hang on and get a MY03 and PPP it. There, I've said it now... that's what I'm gonna do. A Scoob. Yep, another one.
B*gger.

I did re-start this thread after a few months cos I was surprised at the few but varied responses and felt that this should be explored a bit more. Bit of a wind-up merchant? Well maybe, but in my defence I resurected this after being told by some bird that she thought I was a sad old git who wanted to be a jack-the-lad, MAX-power **** (and that was before she saw my car!)

This just pisses me off. But no, I won't sell the car cos of its image and yes I do laff my b4lls off every time I climb behind the wheel and head into work, particularly when its chucking it down (I have a fantastic 20-mile B-road drive). So, no, TITTIECARCAR, I am not a snob (or even a snoob), and have admitted to accepting performance modifications as OK (tho draw the line at taking the MY too far beyond its spec, especially if its cosmetic), and point out that the majority of the people who have replied to this thread (particularly in the second round) would agree with me. It will be a sad day indeed when the Impreza Turbo joins the leagues of the XR3is, Novas etc, driven 'round by pr4ts who hang out in the KFC or McD's car-park.

Just an opinion.

Although I have been a scoobie nut through my rally days (spectating) and now own a MY98 turbo. I am pleased to say that my scooby has not been modified or altered as some are, and I am more than happy with it on a day to day basis!!!!!

I can still finish an escort cossie if I want to!!!! (and have ,once!)

Love the car, want another and another !!!!!

Saving for the STI 8 or P1! Don't know which, any suggestions?

Ive owned scoobs for 4 years and have had the P1 for 2 of them. Yes they are more readily affordable but in time it happens to all cars. I kind of take it as a compliment when "boy racers" want to talk to me about the car. I now also have a cossie powered westfield and i realise just how easy the scoob is to drive quick but the downside, it makes us all feel better drivers than what we really are, which can be dangerous.

I've now traded in my UK MY97 turbo for a MY00 P1, where one of the cosmetic additions is a Group N backbox - f'ing loud but a damn sight more sociable that the FireStorm that was originally on it. Ti be honest I feel a bit of a **** driving around in this overtly outrageous car, mullified slightly by the fantastic performance and handling.

Does this make me a hypocrite - dunno? Would I do anything else to it (cosmetically)? - Absolutely not (no need!). Is this in the same league as a Max'd-up Nova, Corsa, XR3i - you're entitled to your views on this but I would say no.

Do I laugh hilariously every time I strap it to me back and start it up, roll down the window when driving thru narrow streets, tunnels, in the fog ... - too bloody right I do!!!

I think they are a little 'Max Power' in there appearance but it does normally go with the actually soul of the car...not a sheep in wolfs clothing like some motors out there. There's a lot of 'classier' cars out there but they ain't as much fun to drive, but maybe next year I'll grow up and get something different.

Only 1 month into Scoob ownership and already looking at S2000's for spring?!?!
