the V6 in Gsi guise is 195 and I believe 220 in 3 litre form. Very good engines on the whole. I thought that some of the saabs had very lightly turboed Vx lumps I may be wrong. My only criticism of my own VX is the clunky odd gearbox

Wasn't defending it, just stating facts (or myversion thereof). Agree, UK car buyers shouldn't be subsidising anyone. Which is why people should arbitrage the situation and buy Euro imports to force down uk prices. Unfortunately the impact on residuals may be somewhat unwanted by others .....


Why didn't anyone 'bite' on the anti-fugly comments? Strange that.

the truth of the matter is it's the dealer that loses out on the 3k we still have to buy them from i.m at the same cost. BUT if we sold a certain amount of foresters between july and september then we are entitled to a further 5 % discount of the price of the new impreza which we can buy them from i.m at. BUT that only corresponds with a january delivery of whch i.m are going to say that there are none available and to expect delivery in feb which is when the new impreza is released anyway so renders the above deal for dealers useless. so once again the dealer is at i.m's mercy which also goes with the "free winter check up" which means that if you send out the predrafted letter from i.m to all your old customers offering the said check up in an attempt to win a few back they get a free half hour check up plus a free gift from the prodrive accesories brochure. this includes key rings back packs and mugs of which the dealer has to pay for at the cost of half an hours labour plus the cost of the gift .although the gift is reduced in price from which the dealer pays.

There was me thinking that dealers were always moaning about making nothing on new cars and only profiting from the associated servicing. Strange when you think that they (IM) turn away servicing opportunities on Jap imports. Now we find out that dealers make £3k plus on a car that virtually sells itself.

Yes, I know about overheads, rates, staff, valetting, warranty issues etc., etc. but 15% markup is a figure that most industries can only dream of.

Just a note on the PCP comments... I handed my Saab Convertible back at the start of the year..It was one month to go on the original 3 year deal but as soon as you've paid over a certain amount you can hand it back and walk away... when the guy came and collected and inspected it the fault list was a mile long.. boy was he picky... It was also 12,000 miles over contract...

I wait for a month thinking anyday now I'm getting a massive bill... It never happened.. I mentioned this to the Saab dealer when in the showroom shopping around for my next motor... thinking if I bought a new one I could get the dealer to settle the bill as a discount on the new motor.. He said that unless the car was totally trashed I wouldn't be getting a bill.. They saw it as a negative to PCP and didn't want these termination bills to put people off new contracts..

Don't think it's hard and fast.. just lucky in my instance I guess

More than a little bit glad I have waited patiently before changing my MY99. May well buy a MY03 if first impressions are anything to go on

I'm currently awaiting delivery of a WRX imported from Holland via an agent. £16600 including alarm, delivery, etc. Price crashes don't bother me as I'm in for the long haul. Only little Mods are order of the day until the 3 year warranty expires!
Looking forward to years of driving pleasure... WHY isn't it on my drive NOW?

Well, I went to the local dealer on Saturday and was offered a new WRX for £17900, and a 12k trade in value for my 45k MY00 Turbo. Not overly bad considering that you can't seem to sell a classic turbo for anything nearthat sort of money these days....

They were more interested in the total number of 'units' they shifted than the price it seemed...

I have a couple of questions:-

Isnt it irrelevant how cheap these cars get? they are as ugly as 5hite!!

Also, Imagine for one horrific moment when you discover that you own something akin to a Choclate Brown Allegro with a high mileage and dodgy gearbox come re-sale time!!!

The Classic will always be worth money - so will the 03, BUT the Fugly will ALWAYS struggle!!

Co55ie if you don't like the gearchange on your GSI ,have the flywheel lightened! Check out www.migweb.co.uk for link's to tuner's. Apparently the flywheel is very heavy because it is used on the Cadilac version of V6 which has to idle alot lower to pass U.S emissions. Aside from the obvious performance gain's it make's the gearchange alot smoother.
