You've said it often enough Kenny. Steady state cornering speed must have a lot to do with tyre compound, contact patch and weight of the vehicle
Quite agree John and this is why I don't take the scooby on the track because I believe I'd be dissapointed with the results for the money it would cost me in terms of wear. In hindsite I perhaps should have taken the VTS on the track but the scooby IMO is not designed/at home on those kinds of surfaces. I went for a spin into midlothian and the borders yesterday and was firing through tight, dodgy and in places broken roads. The scooby was stupid quick and the lack of lag was just awsome (cheers downpipe). The VTS or any FWD hatch for that matter would have totally blitzed by the scooby and those are the sort of roads I like so I think I've chosen well Fortunately I had the road to myself so no wee hatches were trying to keep up

Right then........brakes

Kenny,

Your idea of the Saxo being better under certain conditions is a lot of hot air.

My last car was a de-catted 16v Ibiza Cupra Sport with nearly 180bhp. Similar size and weight to the Citroen???

My old wagon destroys the Seat in every department. Get your car onto Kames for some real fun and not as much wear!

Doug the VTS would run rings round the seat on a smooth track IMO. JB hit the nail on the head with his 'solid state handling' comment. On smooth fast sweeping bends the VTS was almost untouchable as there was nothing to upset it. On a big roundabout if you slowly increased the speed of a standard VTS and a standard scooby I'd bet the scooby would let go first. However, as john said this could be a simple as the tyres that each manufacturer supplied with the car - I'll report back after I upgrade my scoobys rubber and get geometry, etc. Stick bumps and broken roads in and the saxo would head through the scenery!!

Evidently so did your seat

I still stick with the theory that my Seat went into that field due to tyre pressures.

Had the rears spun on themselves a couple of days prior by performance tyres in Glasgow.

Still my fualt for not checking pressures, as the car would have not got so out of shape on a corner (in the dry) of a road I have driven most days for the last 6 years.

Slightly more feel from the SEat over the rough roads, but would that not be the case in most "hot hatches" with shorter wheel base?

Have you not had your geo. and bumpsteer done yet as I feel that makes a difference with regards to your roundabout theory.

Also what tyres did you run on the VTS?

Still no geo and bump and I'm really hoping for big things from those mods! The tyres I'm running on the scooby are pretty crap at the moment as well so I'd expect once all these things have been dealt with it'll be every bit as good on the smooth stuff as the VTS and of course vastly superior on other surfaces

The VTS came with Michellan Pilot SX GT's 195/45 15's. The sidewalls were very stiff which helped it hold on really well in the corners. They were good tyres I must admit and wear up front was reasonable despite the power relative to weight at the front

Why did you say 'old' wagon? Have you sold your scooby or something?

The key word there being 'slowly' with the scoob you could get up there quicker without washing out at the front end !
I agree the limit of adhesion during steady state cornering is more a function of tyre type and car weight than it is power/drivetrain/suspension configuration.

My little kit car pulls 20% more G force on corners than my scoob, this is due to it being half the weight and lower centre of gravity
even although it actually runs on quite crappy tyres.

'Old' as in 90000k on the clock!!

Ran 16' Pilots on the Cupra and had two Exaltos which I still have) to go on the back, however as Pilots had a bit left I had them spun (which made me spin!! ).

Andy, what G-force did my car pull again when you tested it on crappy Falkens?

I have a note of it at home (I'm at work now) from memory it was 1.08G ?
Kenny for comparison, my scoob was only pulling 1.03G lateral G with the old suspension it had on it when you were in it this was due to it sitting on the bump stops with the standard springs ! Oh, and it's got 40 more bhp now too

You have tinkered quite a bit since I was last in it...I'll have to hound you for another spin in it sometime

Good call, there is just one problem!!! You'd be in gullane before I got to aberlady!!!

I've got a funny story about that road actually

I was out on site a few months back on a nice summery day heading from port seton to aberlady. As you may recall there was annoying and sporadic roadworks at that time on that road (which I didn't realise until after the event!!). Anyways, I headed out of PS and put the foot down making some good old twisty progress. I then came to the corner with the nasty mid-bend bump - the one you like to turn in early on and sort of bunny-hop over. As I came round at *cough* 80ish I relised that there were 4 workmen, a drill thing and a 'use the right lane' sign at an alarmingly close range. I couldn't risk just diving into the right lane without knowing what was coming the otherway so I jumped on the brakes which stuck the car sideways (still cornering) but I quickly realised the backend wasn't going to come round too much and that I actually had the space required to stop. 3 of the workmen were facing me, looked up, assessed that I was going to pull her up in time and paid little attention!! The fourth guy had is back turned to me and when he glanced over his shoulder all he could see/hear was a sideways scooby and squeeling tyres.....so.....in a fit of panic he ran to the side of the road and superman dived into the bushes I smiled at his workmates who I suspect probably gave him a ripping afterwards

He, he

Talking

Hehe, had a similar incident recently when a GT4 Celica all of a sudden thought he was pulling away from a scoob I came round the corner at 20 mph to find him nose deep in the same bushes
